Fall decor inspiration

September 6, 2021

Fall weather is quickly approaching and that has many of us searching for inspiration for fall decorating.  October of 2021 will actually mark 10 years of blogging for me so I have 10 years’ worth of fall decor and inspiration tucked away on this little blog of mine that I thought I might gather in one spot for you to easily find.

Fall mantel decor ideas:

This was last years cozy fall mantel.

The year before I did a layered simple fall mantel with thrifted mirrors

Neutral layered fall mantel

Picket fence fall mantel

This was my first fall mantel in our current home and it’s one of my favorites!  I love the simplicity and the symmetry AND it also got me published in a magazine!  You can see the magazine feature here.

This was my last fall mantel at our previous home and the year I built those DIY wood shutters.  You can see how to make those and more about this mantel here.

This was the very first fall mantel I ever blogged… my style has changed since then but I still love that linen banner I made.

I used some reclaimed pallet wood to make this mantel backdrop

Fall wreath ideas:

I love to make wreaths for the seasons and this DIY cotton wreath can be used year-round but especially works during fall.

This was a simple fall wreath I made at our last house.  You can follow this same basic concept and do whatever colors and stems you prefer

And this wreath is basically a free project and one that would be fun to do with your kids!  Just gather up some fall leaves and glue to a wreath form made from a cereal box or cardboard – full tutorial here.

Did you ever make one of those coffee filter wreaths back in the day?  When I first started blogging they were everywhere and in every color!  So simple and cheap to make.

And for this fall wreath I basically gathered every stem and pick I had and put it on a wreath form  – fall overload on the front door! 🙂

I made this DIY wood slice wreath for Christmas but you could easily use for fall or all year round just by using different decor on it.

Fall living room ideas:

My living room is probably my favorite area to add some fall touches just because it’s the room we spend the most time in and the center of our home.

I really liked the simple touches I used on my mantel last year with wood beads, amber jars and burnt yellow accents.

Adding rich fall colors in pillows and throws adds so much to your home.  Many of these pillows and throws I have thrifted over the years just making sure to wash really well.

I have made several DIY chalkboards and it is a fun spot to decorate for fall too.

Cozy is my favorite way to decorate for fall!

You can keep it more neutral or add more vibrant fall colors.

Fall front porch ideas:

My other favorite spot to decorate is my front porch!  We have a long yet narrow front porch in this house with a centered front door and it’s a lot of fun to decorate!

I have some old picket fence pieces I use out there many times.

This particular year I did sort of a fall farmer’s market theme on my front porch.

My porch swing gets lots of use and it’s such a fun spot to add some fall touches too.

Last year I added hay bales to my front porch for the first time just for something different.  Do you do hay bales or corn stalks or mums or pumpkins?

Again using those old picket fence pieces along with hay bales, mums and pumpkins.  I have collected over time many faux pumpkins from yard sales, clearance sales and Walmart usually has some budget-friendly ones too so that I don’t have to buy real pumpkins every year. It can get expensive buying it all so I have found ways to cut down the cost.  I also will plant any mums I get in my yard and most of them will come back year after year giving me more return for my money 🙂

This was my first fall front porch in our house but still one of my favorites!  I love using potted grasses in my fall decor and I may do that again this year.  Buy some for your fall porch and then plant them in your yard after the season!

And this year I went all out with lots of picket fence pieces on my fall front porch and some mums I found on clearance!

An old wood chair is a fun way to style a pot of mums on your porch.

Fall Coffee bar

I love changing up my coffee bar for the seasons and here’s one fall coffee bar I did.  You can see all the details on how I created my coffee bar here.

Fall tablescape ideas

I don’t usually host Thanksgiving at my house but that doesn’t stop me from creating a pretty fall table.  This one was simple with some pretty fall dishes and a DIY centerpiece box.

Last year I did a pretty Thanksgiving table in my dining room – see all the details here.

And this fall table at my previous home was one of my favorites!

Fall project/craft ideas:

I’ve done quite a few fall projects and crafts over the years – one of my favorites has to be these DIY wood pumpkins.  Make them with or without the added planter boxes on the front.

I also painted these premade wood pumpkins one year too.

Did you know that you can paint pumpkins?  One year I used regular latex paint and did some fun painted designs on pumpkins.

A DIY painted sign is a great way to add some fall decor to your porch.  Find the template to make this exact sign in this post.

And did you know you can create your own mercury glass?  Such a fun and cheap way to make a pretty glass pumpkin.

I made this pumpkin topiary after loving one that my MIL had from a store.  Much cheaper to DIY yourself!

And last fall we built a DIY stone firepit in our back yard and have enjoyed it all year! Much easier project than you think so definitely check out this post.

I hope this helps you get some ideas for your fall decor this year!  Whether it be something you can make or create or some color schemes or decor ideas.  I’d love to know what your favorite fall decor post was or hear what you plan on doing to decorate for fall this year?

Also, I am joining up with some of my blog friends and doing a monthly blog hop called “It’s so good to be home!”  I hope you’ll hop over and check out their posts today too  – I see some more really good fall inspiration.
