I know I may be a bit late to the game since it seems Christmas is popping up everywhere but I figured before I get the urge to take all this down and replace it with garland and twinkling lights (shhh… probably next week!) I better show you my fall mantel!
This was my fall mantel last year – you can get details and see more pictures here. It is probably my favorite mantel of all times with last year’s winter mantel being my second favorite. And it has been my most popular fall mantel too as it has been pinned thousands of times and was featured on CountryLiving.com, Country Living’s facebook page, Huffington Post, MSN’s website, and the Today Show’s website! Wow.. just wow! It seems crazy to me that so many people have loved my stash of thrifted and yard sale finds collected together on a mantel. I decorated my mantels for seasons long before I blogged – it is just something I LOVE doing. I love bringing the season outdoors alive inside my home and putting all my thrifted treasures to use on display.
Since I loved last year’s mantel so much, I didn’t make too many changes for this years. But with a few changes it does have a bit of a different look. Here is this year’s fall mantel!
It is COLD here today… And I can’t tell you how cozy my house is with candles burning, the scent of a fall candle in the air, the fall leaves alive with color outside my window, and a cute kitty snuggled up next to me!
One thing I changed up this year was to add a chalkboard with a fall saying that I love to my mantel. I am not a chalk artist by any means, but I am trying to learn how to better letter on chalkboards. I even have a Pinterest board where I am gathering ideas for how to write on chalkboards like a pro and chalkboard art ideas.
Follow Christina {The Frugal Homemaker}’s board Chalkboard ideas on Pinterest.
I used my fall linen banner to add some interest to the chalkboard and start off the quote.
The mantel is layered in lots of yard sale and thrifted finds but a little bit simpler this year. The white fence board background, both pillows, and the plaid throw is from a thrift store; and the wreath, dried corn, white bench, wood bin, and window are all from yard sales. Then I just added some lanterns (brown wood one from Kohl’s and white wood one from Kirkland’s several years ago), my mercury glass candle holders from the BHG Walmart collection a few years ago, and some real pumpkins and my mantel was complete! Pillows and throw on the couch are thrift store finds too – my Value Village has an amazing linen and pillow selection most of the time.
I love the muted/neutral colors of browns, whites, and burlap that are so popular for fall but I have to admit the deep, rich colors of fall just can’t be ignored.
I also LOVE the new wall color (Wheat Bread by Behr) this year. Things look so much more “clean” and bright looking.
Our leaves are at their peek right now and fall truly is the year’s last loveliest smile! Unless we get a nice pretty layer of snow, but here in the south that doesn’t happen until January if it happens it all.
Happy Fall to you!! Enjoy these last few days and weeks before Christmas and cold temperatures take over!
Is your house still decorated for fall/Thanksgiving or are you already switched over to Christmas?

Your mantel looks amazing. I love the way you incorporated the bunting with the chalkboard. So cute!

So pretty, as usual! The cold has already taken hold here in the Midwest. It’s hard to enjoy fall when the high temp is in the 20’s.

I love the throw on the stool, just brings a warm cozy to the whole ensemble. I love fall and even though it’s been gray and damp, I am not ready to drag out all the Christmas tubs 🙁 Have to remember the Reason and not get all caught up in the “stuff”. Remembering your family as you have an empty chair around your table this Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Love and prayers.
