So my friend Christa wrote her goal checkup post last week and this is the picture she used to describe it…
Yep, I feel the same way! Don’t even want to look at this list. And worse yet we are 1/4 of the way DONE with 2012 and I am no where near 1/4 of the way through my goals
I declared March “the month to get things done” and you know what, it just didn’t happen. It was a busy month with many activities and I just don’t know it was gone before I knew it. I actually think I have gotten more done in the first 9 days of April than I did in all of March.
So anyway here goes – lets call it the goals I didn’t get done in March update.
You can read my original goal post here – this is a summarized version so I can so I can comment on which ones I still need to work on and which ones I have made progress on.
Goals are in bold, progress is in italics…
2012 GOALS
Grow in my relationship with the Lord
- spend daily time in His word and in prayer –working on this
- read through the Bible in a year – working on this
- read devotional books – hmmm..need to work on this still need to work on this!
Nurture a loving relationship with my husband
- date nights every other Friday night – did this!

- find ways I can make his life easier (pack his lunches, clothes ready for work) – working on this
- make meaningful conversations a priority – had some good talks on our car trips to church but still need to work on “not working” in the evenings as much.
Going to make it a goal this month to have 1 evening each week (not counting a date night) that I don’t work in the evening and we spend meaningful time together.
Challenge myself to become a better woman, wife, homemaker.
- Read at least 12 books this year – read The Money Saving Mom’s Budget in January, but haven’t finished my February book or March book – gotta work on that
- Take better care of myself (exercise, eat healthy, go to bed earlier) –
this one was sort of a bust last month, BUT I have definite plans to work on this as a habit this month. Going to try to start an exercise routine and develop a daily schedule (set bed times/wake up times)– none of this happened this month - Get my home organized and clean – did a little more purging this month but it is still no clean Check out my before and after Simplify posts.

Be a good steward of our finances.
- Save even more this year by managing our money better –amazed this month how keeping better track of our finances and spending has allowed us to save more!
- One specific savings goal – save 75% towards the purchase of a new-to-us car (hoping to purchase in the fall/end of next year) – saved March amount
Find ways to minister to those around me.
- have guests in my home once a month –
yay, accomplished this goal in February! Had a couple over for Sunday dinner and then spur of the moment invited another family over too! Plus co-hosted a game night at my brother’s house. So I didn’t have anyone over this month but I did a meal for someone at church who had surgery, a meal for a family member that had surgery, and another meal for a family member whose kitchen was torn apart due to a water leak so I guess I will count those. - minister to others – wrote notes to all our college kids, brought meals to 3 families
I also made 12 specific HOME goals:
1. Add a gallery wall in our entryway-
maybe this month?maybe this month2. Work on our kitchen –

about 90% done withthe BIG Simplify project and cleanoutbut plan to keep on doing this throughout the yearhouse is still feeling way too cluttered so still working on this9. Make our home more “us.” –
been doing this a little by getting rid of things we no longer love, need, or want – got rid of lots more in February!work in progress10. Focus on making our home a place we can minister in the area of hospitality –
did better this month and had people over!have still got to work on this11. Keep our living space (downstairs) 30 minutes to company clean. –
did better, but stillneed to be more consistent12. But most of all, learn to LOVE where we live – excited and content with where we are in our house/life right now.
So a little progress but not much.
I wanted to try to work on developing a habit in March: develop and practice a time schedule in my life. Not sure if I have mentioned it or not, but I quit out of the house job right before Thanksgiving and now work strictly from home. It has been hard to get in a routine since every day of my week is different – some days I am watching 3 kids, some days I work online/around the house most of the day, etc. BUT I need to develop a bare bones type schedule. Go to bed at a set time (although as I type this post it is 12:10 am – that is why I need to work on this!), get up at a set time, and have a bare bones schedule/blocks of time during my day set aside for certain tasks. (Whew…this might be a 2 month project!) Any suggestions from any stay at home/work at home women or moms? and I pretty much failed. so I still need to work on this – might try to make some baby steps this month.
I declared March “The month to get things DONE!” and yet I didn’t “get things done”. So I declare April “the month to REALLY get things done”
In fact I have made some mental notes of things I want to accomplish this month:
- spruce up outside (a few projects planned for this and in the works. I want all my major spring sprucing up/outdoor projects done by Mother’s Day in may)
- refinish 2 pieces of furniture in my garage
- complete either my guest room or my 1/2 bath
- start some major work in the kitchen
- have a yard sale (weed out more stuff for this although I already have a large pile in the garage)
- clean out the garage
So maybe that will help me stay on track a little better this month.
Thanks for reading this book of a post!

Good job! Goals are just that: Something to work towards! Proud of you for at least trying and not giving up. BTW, the making your own laundry soap is probably the easiest and most cost effective item on your list! Don’t put it off. It’s easy and works great too! If you need a recipe, I pinned one… (I already follow you on Pinterest. You can find me there too… Shalene Kearney.)

thanks!
the only reason I am putting off making the laundry soap is I have quite a bit of store-bought detergent stocked up from coupon deals. so trying to use that up. don’t plan on buying store bought after that and then making my own.

Way to go!!! Keep up the good work!

thanks for the encouragement! thinking of changing my goals up next month and making only a monthly list?? whatcha think? I think looking at the WHOLE list is overwhelming and discouraging for me??
Wendy says
We make huge lists for ourselves don’t we? I had only 1 goal a week for this year and I’ve still only achieved one of those consistently! It seems the only things I really WANT to do are reading, watching films, blogging and doing makeovers on my blog, lol! I’m such a procrastinator! xx
Christina says
I am a procrastinator too. and an overchiever 🙂 those 2 don’t fit well together 🙂

I think you made a huge list for March and you did get a lot accomplished. Not the entire list, bit who could?
In really related to the time schedule goal and the take better care of myself goal. I struggle with both those things. I work from home, too, and my work can be pretty demanding. And I can never seem to get it all doberman in the bounds of a preschool day. So I work LATE almost every night. I’m contemplating letting some things go.
Christina says
I work LATE every night too 🙁 trying to work on having a set bed time but I am a night owl too so that doesn’t help either.
my list wasn’t all for March – it is sort of the whole year. I think I might need to change and do a monthly to-do list. I think that would help me feel like I accomplished some specific things and have a specific list of things to accomplish instead of trying to accomplish 50 things. New at this goals thing too – so it is a work in progress 🙂

My goodness-there is a very old saying that my grandma used to say-you have my goals than “Carter has Liver Pills” don’t know why but I could hear her when I was reading your list. Step back and relax a little-obviously your heart and spirit is in the right place. I do the love not thing almost daily and now he expects it and if I forget a day he thinks what’s wrong? truth is nothing sometimes I am just more creative than other times-Here’s my secret I sit down write a good 30 notes at a time and then hid them all over-Usually on Laundry day and I stick them in pockets, in underwear flaps, down in socks, shoes, in lids of shaving cream any place i can think of. I also get up each morning lay out clothes even put all stuff in pockets belt in the loops, fix lunch and snacks for his day. Fix his coffee and have everything ready to walk out the door . I also take his shoes and socks off when he arrives have his drink poured ashtray out and dinner cooking or ready when he hits the door-I even have door cracked open for him. Now I know this is pretty 1950’s and that is a ok with me I love and adore my sweetheart and feel priviledged to care for him! It is just where my heart is for him and that is not saying anyone not doing those things doesn’t love their mate it just works for me. I admire your entire list it just seems you are setting your self up for failure it is just so many things on your different lists but I admire each and every one
Christina says
oh wow, Julie! you sound like an amazing wife! I cut my list down a little this month – hope you caught that. My month went much better last month by making specific goals just for that month – not all these lists 🙂
