April goals update

May 8, 2012

2012 goals monthly checkup

So last month I was quite discouraged with my goals and what I had gotten done.  Many of you commented in the comments and in emails that I was trying to accomplish too much! Smile  And I would agree that I can be over-ambitious and then down on myself when I don’t accomplish what I think I should be able to accomplish. (Am I the only one that does this?)  A few of you also suggested I cut down my goal list and make specific, attainable monthly goals.

Last month I made sort of a to-do list just for that month and I think my month went MUCH better.  So I think I am going to change up how I post and view my goals.  You can find the goals I have made for the entire year here.  Each month I will post my every month goals (things I want to accomplish each month such as have at least 2 dates, read 1 book, etc.) and a specific list of things I pick off my yearly goal list to accomplish that month.

Monthly goals (goals to accomplish each month)

  • Date nights every other week (Yep, did this!)
  • Find ways to better our marriage – notes, meaningful conversations, make his life easier (We have started writing notes on the bathroom mirror to each other – he even wrote back this month Winking smile)
  • Read 1 book each month (still haven’t done this – maybe I can catch up this summer while on vacation)
  • Do a monthly Pinterest project and blog about it (DONE!)

January’s project (Hang my measuring cups)                                           February’s project (Make a DIY Clothespin wreath)                                March project (Spring Green wreath and DIY plate hangers)        April project (Pinterest inspired Frugal Fashion)

  • Save a specific amount of $ towards our “pay 75% cash for a car” goal (DONE!)
  • Have guests in our home for a meal or overnight (having a hard time doing this so have just made it a goal to somehow show hospitality to others even if that is taking a meal to someone, etc.)  (fixed several meals this month)
  • write and send at least 2 handwritten notes or cards (this is actually a new goal that I have accomplished the last 2 months so I am adding it as I think it is goal-worthy) (think I wrote like 8 notes this month so did good with this)

April goals checkup

  1. spruce up outside (a few projects planned for this and in the works.  I want all my major spring sprucing up/outdoor projects done by Mother’s Day in May) almost done!

Here’s what I got done this month:

Cleaned out the flower beds

Painted and stained the front porch

Gave the mailbox a face lift

Re-hung my vintage window turned flower planter

  1. refinish 2 pieces of furniture in my garage (did 1 piece, still have 1 more to do)
  2. complete either my guest room or my 1/2 bath (well not completed but I have worked on them)
  3. start some major work in the kitchen (still working on plans)
  4. have a yard sale (weed out more stuff for this although I already have a large pile in the garage) DONE!
  5. clean out the garage (it was cleaned out for my  yard sale, now need to do some major organizational projects)

Much better month!  Got lots of things done with just a few leftover for this month.

Goals for May

  1. Complete mailbox flower beds
  2. Finish decorating front porch
  3. Paint another piece of furniture in the garage
  4. Complete gallery wall
  5. Work on and hopefully complete 1/2 bath
  6. Paint guest room furniture
  7. Continue working on plans for the kitchen
  8. Work on organizing the garage
  9. Work on developing a weekly/monthly cleaning schedule
  10. Coordinate a bridal shower
  11. Host Mother’s Day lunch
  12. Work on making several new/better homemade meals

So I am hoping for another good month!  And hoping that this way of looking at my goals and breaking them down by month will help too.

How about you?  Do you make monthly goals?  And how did you do in April on your goals?

awww, well I am glad! I usually have TOO much on my list and then I get sick or LIFE happens and it just doesn’t get done. But I am learning to be happy an ok with myself if I get 50-75% of it done 🙂
