Our little girl turned TWO last week! I’m still in disbelief that this little baby is already two – time just flies so fast!
She is super into cooking in her play kitchen and having tea parties with her dolls and stuffed animals so when I began looking for a theme, I came across “Tea for Two” theme ideas on Pinterest and knew it would be perfect.
I staged a mini-tea party in her room a week or so before her party with some of the decor I would planned to use at her party. I like to do these “posed” pictures beforehand because the day of the party sometimes things get crazy and you don’t get the best pictures. Plus I use them and create a simple and inexpensive party invite with the photos too.
Her shiplap wall in her bedroom is a perfect backdrop for pictures and I used the farmhouse kids table and chair set I redid to set everything on. She had so much fun having tea with her teddy bear! And I got some adorable pictures.
Here’s the simple invite I put together in Picmonkey and then just sent to pick up at Walmart.
Then it was time for her party! This was a pretty easy and very inexpensive party for me to decorate for since I was able to pretty much just use stuff I already had. The only thing I bought other than food was the pink lace yard of material and the floral material that I made into a simple pendant banner and since we used my grandmother’s china I didn’t even have to buy paper products!
I set up 3 tables – one table for food, a small table for drinks and cupcakes, and another table for us to sit at. Flowers from my yard, decor that I use above my mantel, yard sale serving stands, DIY chalkboard, white fabric tablecloths and burlap runners completed the look.
I did a display of monthly pictures as the backdrop on the dessert/drink table. We had cupcakes and mini fruit pizzas for dessert and peach tea and strawberry lemonade to drink. No hot tea this time since she’s not really into that yet Remember my $1.69 Target Christmas clearance tablecloth – yep, that’s it on this table along with a table runner I recently found at a yard sale for $1.00.
I wanted a garden tea party theme and even debated about doing it outside – but we had had rain for 2 weeks straight before her party and it actually stormed during her party so bringing flowers from the yard inside was the perfect way to still get that garden party feel without roasting in the heat and getting soaked outside.
She was so excited and so careful using “pecial” dishes as she calls them. The china is my grandmother’s china passed down to me so Katelyn’s great-grandmother so that made it extra special.
I’m SO thankful for how far our yard has come from this before post! I love being able to have flowers and gardens that I can go and clip from and bring inside for DIY bouquets. Hoping to be able to do that with hydrangeas soon!
For food once I again I kept it simple with finger type foods plus things that the birthday girl and her birthday daddy like! Chicken salad in croissants, sausage balls, veggie pizza (find recipe here), PB and honey sandwiches cut into fun shapes, cheese and olives, and fresh fruit.
She loved having a “tea party” with her cousins and Grandma/Nana and yes we drank strawberry lemonade or tea out of the little tea cups. For favors I did a Paparazzi little girls fancy bead bracelet for each one of the girls to wear during the party.
After lunch and opening presents it was time for cake.
So thankful for this sweet little girl!! Can’t believe she is two now!
Hope you enjoyed all the pictures and got some ideas for an upcoming party or event you might be planning… and thanks for following along and being interested in big events in our families life.
Can’t wait to show you some more home/decorating projects that I’ve been working on later this week!

What joy! I love the knowing look she’s exchanging with her bear in one picture, as if they’re conversing. My daughter (sweet surprise after three boys!) is turning 2 soon and you’ve given me some lovely ideas. The pictures taken ahead is a great idea…much less pressure and possibility of losing the right photo moment in last minute craziness. Children are truly a gift from the Father.

Your little girl is so beautiful. You did such a great job putting this party together. I am going to keep it to look at later in case I need to get some ideas. My own little great granddaughter just turned 1 in April. Maybe we will do this for her next year.
Happy decorating!!

She is a beauty, love her curls! You did a fabulous job with the decor, and it’s proof that you can put together a beautiful party on a budget using things you already have! Looking forward to seeing more of your home decor projects?. I just bought a piece of fabric in the clearance section of Hobby Lobby and it looks just the like the pink floral print you used for the pennant swag! My baby girl with blond curls just turned 19 on June 5 and is heading off to college soon, I was thinking of using it for a cute throw pillow for her dorm room?.

Lovely little girl, and the Garden Tea Party theme is perfection. You should think about a business for children parties, baby/bridal showers.

So sweet! Beautiful party, and good for you for using your lovely china with your 2 year old. Teach them how to use nice things and they will grow up to appreciate and use nice things (and that china is beautiful!). It doesn’t always have to be paper plates! Your garden touches really made your tea party seem like you were in a lovely garden area.
