I was in one of those moods to change up the decor in my house this week even in the midst of a busy week of VBS at church. It’s just been quite a while since I did a seasonal mantel (except fall and Christmas), and to be honest sometimes I miss it. My style is much more simple and neutral now – just what I crave at this stage in my life – but that doesn’t mean I can’t decorate for the seasons in a fresh and new way.
So here’s my Summer Patriotic Coastal themed mantel!
Perfect for 4th of July next week and the coastal touches make it perfect for the rest of the summer. I love patriotic decor but I don’t want a lot of red in my house during the summer. Just a few touches and some turquoise blues are perfect!
I’m really giving that red fireplace the side eye right now as it seems to show even more in these pictures. I hope to tackle that later this summer but I’m a bit nervous that I won’t get the german shmear/antique brick look that I want. One of these days I will get up the nerve to tackle it!
If you remember back in the spring I added some teal blue pillows and those go perfect for this coastal patriotic look too.
The wood flag sign was an after-season clearance find at Kirkland’s last summer I think I got it for $10 or less at 75% off. I checked their website and they don’t have it again this year but they do have this USA cutout wood sign or this Star Spangled Banner song wood sign for 50% right now.
My ceilings are just so high in the living room that it was too small to use by itself over the mantel so I hung it over my shiplap backdrop. I really like the layered look anyways! Then just added a few starfish and seashells, a navy pillow grabbed off the guest bed, and some regular decor that has a coastal feel on the coffee table and that completes the look.
Now it has me wanting to go to the beach – can’t wait for vacation later this summer.
So just a simple coastal patriotic themed mantel this summer! I love how just rearranging a few things and changing out some decor brings a fresh and clean look to our home.
Here’s some patriotic or coastal themed Summer mantels I’ve done in the past (click the picture to go to the post for full details).
How do you decorate for summer? Do you change out any decor or add a summer touch?

I love to decorate and 4th of July is my favorite, just behind Christmas. Thanks for sharing your photos.

I think your mantel looks great! There’s something serene about it. I with you on the German Schmear. I want to do it so badly but I’m afraid I’ll screw it up or won’t like it once it’s finished. I wish there was an app for that 🙂

Love your slip covered couches. Where did you get them?
