Have you ever found yourself shouting at your TV? Maybe there is a sporting event on and you are yelling at your favorite team (or the opposing team)? Have you ever wished you could change channels, change the volume, and control your TV with your voice? Well, now with XFINITY you can! Seriously what will they think of next? When they come out with the controller or the system that will deliver pizza or cook dinner or fold laundry!!? while watching my favorite shows, I am so getting that one!
Last month, XFINITY released the Voice Remote as part of the X1 Entertainment Operating System. The voice remote allows users to search through tens of thousands of shows and movies by simply talking into the remote.
Watch this short video to get all the details….
Isn’t that cool? Here’s what the remote looks like:
I love that you can say “Record Fixer Upper” – will definitely be using that one! You can search by actor, channel, sports team and much, much more – no special commands, just talk in plain English. You can even ask it what you should watch or to show you more like your favorite shows!
And it even has a backlit keyboard and aim-anywhere control, making it even easier to navigate with ease, even in the dark.
And there are some extra special “hidden” features too:
- it recognizes hundreds of popular movie quotes! For example, if you tell your voice remote, “If you build it, he will come,” it will find the movie Field of Dreams. Rumor has it that you can even find Frozen by singing along with some of its hits…(”Let it Go”, anyone? You might not want to tell your kids that one ) See which ones you can find and let me know!
- How cool would it be if your favorite celeb responded back when you searched for their content? Yep – the XFINITY Voice Remote can do that too!
Are you a Despicable Me/Minion fan? Well, how about if you could talk to your TV in “Minionese”?
Say things like “Banana” and it will pull up Food programming, “Booyah” will pull up Action movies, “Minions” will pull up Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2, and more. Follow XFINITY or the Minions on social media to see more commands that you can use.
And the best part – the Voice Remote is available to anyone with the X1 Entertainment Operating System from XFINITY FREE of charge! New customers will get the remote during their installation and existing ones can either pick one up at an XFINITY store or order online using the form here to get yours shipped out today – it’s free, just pay S+H!
So one of you could use a $100 American Express gift card to do something fun this summer, right? Click on the rafflecopter widget below to login, then click that you commented, and leave a comment on this post telling me what is YOUR favorite feature of the remote? The Minions, the backlit feature, the aim anywhere feature, just being able to talk into a remote and control your tv, being able to search by quotes/titles/songs???

Lisa says
Favorite feature is definitely the aim anywhere. Seems silly but it’s frustrating to keep pushing the remote buttons and nothing happens if it’s not aimed in the precise spot.

I think the search and recommendation feature is pretty cool.

I like that you can turn on closed captioning with your voice.

I love that you can search for a certain actor – I miss that without my tivo anymore. This is such a great remote!!
Kelly D says
I like that you can use voice commands to change the channel.

It is unbelieveable the advances made in my life time. Remember getting excited about having a remote at all that would change channels. I like being able to use my voice rather than finding the right button to push, of course, that’s assuming one of my grandkids hasn’t misplaced the remote.
Debbie says
I like the voice feature. Lazy, but I like it.

It is neat that you can search by movie quotes!
Susan Christy says
Being able to change the channel without touching the remote. Every time I reach for it, I’m afraid I’ll knock over my drink on the end table.
Mary Cloud says
The Coolest Feature is that you can quote a movie and it will find it for you
