“Everyone has a favorite movie” + $100 giveaway

March 25, 2015

Disclosure: Post and giveaway sponsored by XFINITY, but all opinions are my own. Please see below for additional disclosure.

Everyone has a favorite movie… right?  What’s yours?  That’s a tough one for me – maybe Elf? Smile

But what if you were blind, deaf, or disabled?  How would that change the way you would view/watch/hear your favorite movie?

I just recently learned of “Emily’s Oz”.  Emily is a 7 year old little girl who is blind.  She describes what she “sees” as she watches Wizard of Oz and it’s pretty amazing!  Her vision is brought to life as a crew build each character and the set of Wizard of Oz according to how she envisions it.  Take a few seconds to view the video below or visit EmilysOz.com.

XFINITY, on the X1 Entertainment Operating System®, has taken things to a whole new level of innovation – allowing access and making things easier for those who may have disabilities.

  • They introduced the industry’s first talking guide.  A voice guidance feature that gives customers with visual disabilities the freedom to independently explore thousands of TV shows and movies. The talking guide “speaks” what’s on the screen and includes details such as program descriptions to help customers decide what to watch.
  • Also they have a voice remote feature.  By using simple voice commands, customers can change channels, search for shows, enable closed captioning and more.
  • And the X1 system has enhanced closed captioning with controls built right in for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Customers can customize their captions by font size, style, color, contrast and more for greater readability.

You can learn more about these features here.

What most impresses you about these features?    Pick your favorite and comment using the rafflecopter widget below.  I hope you have enjoyed these monthly $100 giveaways I have been able to offer you!

The talking guide sounds really awesome. It is so amazing what they can do with technology today. And to be able to help those with a disability that is great. Thanks for sharing this, I wasn’t aware of any of these things. It may be of use in the future as I work in property management with the elderly and disabled.

The closed captioning would have to be my favorite b/c it not only allows the deaf/hard of happening to understand and know what is going on in a show but it helped a member of my family learn to read lips.
