So I stopped into a local Dollar Tree yesterday (we have several within a 20 mile radius) and found so many fun things and good deals for $1.00 that I pulled out my phone (excuse the cell phone pictures) and started taking pictures to share with you. So come take a tour of Dollar Tree with me – you might be surprised at what all you can get for $1.00!
I used to buy these styrofoam wreaths all the time to make wreaths since you can’t beat the $1 price – some even for wreaths I made and gave as gifts. But a few years ago they stopped carrying them in-store and online (yes, you can shop Dollar Tree online!). I was so excited to find them there again yesterday and made sure to stock up just in case they don’t stay around long.
I showed you how to make a DIY cheap styrofoam wreath form in this post but these are HARD styrofoam and much sturdier especially if you are making a wreath with any weight to it. So what do I use them for? I would use them for these projects:
And so many more projects!
I also couldn’t believe these super cute metallic colored owls they had! They are actually banks but you would never know and could totally use them as décor! I picked up a red one to use for Christmas.
They also had these metallic/mercury glass candle holders
Battery operated candles are always great! And they had tea lights, pillar candles
and these LED battery operated candles.
Their craft supply selection is great too! These plain/no marking glass jars are great for a mason jar project you want to make but don’t want the “Mason” stamp on the jar
I LOVE brown Kraft paper and the dollar store always has a good supply. If you need a large quantity you may save more money to buy a big roll at Hobby Lobby. But this is great for small projects. I plan to do some wrapping this Christmas with brown paper.
h
Check out all these wrapping ideas – lots with brown kraft paper.
Moss can be used for many projects and $1 is a good price.
You can craft in many ways with clothespins.
Like my clothespin wreath.
Lots of ribbon for $1.00.
And I use this twine all the time for projects. I love the green – need to figure out what I can do with that.
I have used these silver plates many times for showers or events. They are cheap and yet look like the real thing.
Need some organizing help? They have bins and baskets in every color!
I thought these locker bins were cute.
Need some ideas on how to use containers to organize – Heather had some great ideas in her 31 days series of Life. Contained.
I loved these Popcorn containers. The big one is really big and would make a great gift container filled with popcorn, a DVD, some drinks or even homemade bags of flavored popcorn!
I always buy my mailing supplies from the dollar store. They are even 3M brand! Plain white mailing envelopes, tape, bubble envelopes, manila envelops – all a good value.
I actually had stopped into get some party supplies for an upcoming shower – the dollar store is my go-to place to first check for what I need for a shower/party.
They even have the popular brands like Disney and superheroes.
And cute stuff in basic colors too.
They of course have tons of Christmas décor and crafts supplies. I am not sure what I could do with these red/green craft sticks but I liked them.
And this patterned duct tape was so cute! Would be so fun to wrap presents.
These were huge – like placemat size. You can use these on the front or pillows, for wall décor, and I am sure many other things.
I love to use the cheap balls to pile in bowls and glass vases, use in centerpieces, on wreaths, etc.
They even have some of the bottle brush trees that are popular to craft with.
And gift bags. There is absolutely NO reason to pay more than a $1.00 for a gift bag. I just refuse to when the Dollar Tree has so many options – big and small, holiday, birthday, and more.
And paper goods and party supplies too.
These tinsel trees were cute too.
And wire-edged Christmas ribbon.
And these cute little jars would be cute to gift candy or nuts in for the holidays.
I found so many fun things! I hope you enjoyed this little tour and found some things you can save money on by buying at your local dollar store. I wasn’t paid or perked or anything to write this post, just found so many fun things and thought you would enjoy them too.
What is your favorite thing to buy at the Dollar Store?
Since you already know what my most popular purchase from Dollar Tree has been over the years (think small box…and it used to be purple- I think that they’ve recently updated their packaging 😉 ), I’ll just share my second favorite. I love their paper straws. I’d rather pay $1.00 at Dollar Tree than $3.00 at Target.
Life is better when you drink from a straw-or so my kids think. 🙂
Oh I LOVE the mercury glass items!! Going to go get some of those for my master bedroom redecorating!!! Thank you for posting! Lots of great ideas and finds!
I love that store from the minute I go in. They have the best seasonal items. Their Christmas items are awesome. I get my reading glasses there, and I love their trail mix.,I buy several kinds and mix them. My grandchildren get a trip to the store if they have 10 check marks for not giving their momma a hard time going to school. They are age 5 & 6.
Great post, Christina! I had to make a trip to Dollar Tree after I read it to get a couple of the owls for my decorating! =) I’ve purchased the wreath forms, felt shapes (and use as placemats), twine (I liked the green, too!), storage containers, ribbon, craft paper, mailing supplies, party supplies, gift bags, etc. I love their seasonal merchandise and greeting cards – probably my favorite items! Thanks for sharing all of the good ideas….
Blessings,
Lanita
Many times when I am leaving the Dollar Store I meet a Grandma and four or five Grandchildren coming into the store laughing and getting ready for their thrills of getting a new something. The Dollar Store is the new Dime Store for kids and adults. I always find something new that I want to try and now have staples I use in my home. Bought some really cute additions to my Christmas Village the other Day and they didn’t cost $50! Their pretzels in the frozen food section are wonderful. Bought some yesterday. You get six frozen pretzels with the salt for $1. Great low fat snack that can be heated in the microwave in 30 seconds. Try them they are wonderful.
I really love the seasonal solar dancing toy. Get a new one every season. I put it in my kitchen window. Makes me smile. 🙂
I love the Dollar Tree. I hosted a baby shower in November. I got all the decorations, tablecloths and paper goods there. Also, silver (fake) platters and white divided dishes to use as relish trays. If people have never gone to a Dollar Tree Store they will have a big surprise when they do go. The variety of items is amazing.
Kraft paper is also good for people who sew for making patterns.
I buy my glue sticks at the dollar tree! They are the kind that work with hot glue guns. They work just as well as the ones from craft stores and they are a lot cheaper!
Really hoping they come out with the White Felt Christmas Tree placemat or whatever they are called. I need 8 more.
I use the popsicle sticks to mix paint in sample containers plus helps spread glue around on different items
What an amazing thing to do Christina. I was blown away by your pictures. I was going to look for small containers at Walmart. Now instead I will go to the Dollar Store. Looks like they have just what I need for a lot less. Thank you so much!
