Christmas gift idea: Painted door mat

Need a last minute gift idea? Or maybe a gift that your kids could do this weekend for the grandparents or other family members? I have an EASY, fast project for you that is useful and super cute too!

You will need a finished carpet mat. You can either pick up an outdoor mat or plain small door mat at a store like Walmart or Target. OR do what I did – pop in your local carpet store and ask for their discontinued carpet samples. I have gotten many of these before when I was teaching to use for parent gifts – sometimes they would give them to me for free, sometimes they charged $1.00 each. Either way they were very affordable and super nice since they are bound and finished on all sides. Perfect for entryway rugs/ door mats.

Then I “Pinterested” (can I make that a verb – cause who uses google anymore??) some Christmas rug ideas and came up with a simple design. I used chalk to sketch on my design and could easily just rub it off if I wanted to change something.

I used my Behr Ultra Premium Plus Ultra paint & primer in one white trim paint to paint the rug. So grab your white trim paint from the garage or pick up some new white trim paint (you probably need some to touch up baseboards anyways).

I honestly was in need of a new outdoor Christmas-themed rug so this will be great out here. And would make a great gift idea too. This is something an older child could totally do by themselves too. Let them get creative with a Christmas tree design, snowflakes, a snowman or whatever they want.
