Taking care of summer outdoor pests (+ enter to win a $25 gift card)

Taking care of summer pests + insects with Sevin dust

Now that we have gotten our grass greener and taken care of our houseplants, it is time to make sure that our yards are clear of those infamous summertime insects and pests.

Central Garden & Pet has just the product to help with that called Sevin Ready-To-Use 5% Dust.

Taking care of summer pests + insects with Sevin dust

GardenTech® Sevin® Brand Insecticides have been trusted by homeowners and professionals to control a wide variety of outdoor insects, including ants, caterpillars, Japanese beetles, white grubs, Lyme disease-transmitting ticks, and other listed insects.

You see, we have this cute little guy living with us indoors.  And we don’t want to be bringing in fleas and ticks indoors with us to infect him.

Taking care of summer pests + insects with Sevin dust

Sevin® Insecticides are designed for outdoor usage, but they can be applied on household plants so as long as the plants are taken outside for treatment; once dried, the plants can be brought back inside.

Sevin® 5% dust is an insecticide so there are careful instructions you will want to follow.  Wear gloves when applying, do it at a time when the winds are calm, and keep people and pets out of the area until the dust has had time to settle.  I treated around this wooded area in the backyard.  Ticks have been bad this year and I am hoping to not have to pull any off of me or my cute little guy inside.

I also treated the front yard.

And treated this HUGE ant bed in my flower garden.

Taking care of summer pests + insects with Sevin dust

First I dug up as much of the ant bed as I could.

Then I treated that area and the remaining ants with the Sevin 5% dust.  I checked that spot a few days later and all the ants were gone.  Yay, now I have my flower bed back.

Do you have some summer pests that you need to take care of?  Ants, ticks, beetles, grubs, beetles have their days numbered in your yard when you use Sevin 5% dust.

And here’s the best part!  One of you will win a $25 American Express gift card – perfect for helping you pick up some products to help around your home and yard.

Just follow the instructions on the rafflecopter widget below.  Giveaway will end Tuesday, June 25th at midnight and the winner will be chosen and emailed.

I have used Sevin for years to control pests on vegetable plants. It is very effective against tomato worms and those caterpillars that destroy squash and cucumber vines.

We have squirrels! They are aggravating because they are constantly digging holes in the flower beds! Wish they’d find another yard to hide their acorns for the winter. 🙂 Our lawn service has taken care of the ant problem. Sometimes as many as 10 mounds would pop up after a rainstorm!

I have used Sevin in my garden, with great success. Take care with killing ants though, if you have peonies! They dont open without the ants assistance! I learned that the hard way :(.

Please take it easy with the pesticides. Pesticides also kill the good bugs too. Like the bees that we need to pollinate our flowers and vegetables, and the butterflies too.
