How to Make a Personalized Stenciled Pillow

August 12, 2015

Disclosure: Post sponsored by DecoArt but choice of saying, creation of pillow, and adding another pillow to my bed was all me! 🙂

I added a fun personalized pillow to my bedroom! Smile  And yes, see that wedding picture in the background – our “Happy Ever After” truly did begin on that day back in 2003.

You guys know how much I love my pillows! Smile  And I love all those personalized pillows and pillows with wording that you see in the stores or online.  I have REALLY been wanting to add some to my home and plan to add several more.  It’s just the wording and how to get it perfectly on there that always stops me.  But stencils are part of the solution to that.

So here’s what I gathered to use – I ended up not using the blue number stencil and the letter stencil in the bottom right.

  • Americana Acrylics paint in Antique Gold and Sweet Mint
  • DecoArt Personally Yours Solid stencil
  • Americana DĂ©cor Olde World Numbers stencil
  • foam brush
  • pillow cover

I love these Decorative Pillow Covers that Hobby Lobby sells – they are great quality and have a zipper.  This one was $5.99 but 50% off so only $3.00.

Once you know what saying you want to stencil, I find it helpful to plan it out on paper where and how you will place your wording.  Counting the characters and spaces will help you to plan the spacing so you get everything centered on the pillow too.

You can use tape or spray on adhesive but I found for doing these larger letters one at a time that I was able to just hold the stencil in place carefully while I dabbed on the paint.

I like to go back and fill in the little spaces that the stencil leaves as I like filled in letters – but that is just my preference.  I just freehanded that.

Then I just grabbed a feather pillow insert from my thrift store stashed (washed, dried, and all fluffy again) and inserted it in the form.

It looks so cute on my bed!  I have teal accents in my room so this will add a fun pop of color whether I use it on the bed or in a chair.

You could do anything – “Mr. and Mrs.”, “Home Sweet Home” – whatever you want.

I am envisioning some sayings I could do on pillow for fall or Christmas… can’t wait!

Thankful for my “happily ever after” and the fun reminder on a pillow. Smile

These stencils can be used for anything – all those pallet wood signs you see?  Yep, you could make one of those too.

What saying or phrase would you stencil to add some personalization to your home?

Okay – you have now inspired me to try this project! I am not very crafty, but I will give it a try. I have NEVER been to a Hobby Lobby store – can you believe that? But, I am going to have to go now! I love pillows and I love yours! Maybe I can make me a Christmas pillow! We will see! Thanks for sharing! Kim (lovingmylife)
