Adding a Mohawk SmartStrand bound carpet to our master bedroom

April 29, 2015

Disclosure: I received a bound carpet for review from Mohawk, but all opinions and thoughts are completely mine.

I have another new addition to the master bedroom!  Which means one more step to having it finished.  Can you guess what it is?

Yes, its that beautiful gray rug!  This rug is a bit different though – it is actually a bound carpet from Mohawk Flooring.  Which means this is wall-to-wall carpet that as been cut and bound from a roll of carpet in the size I wanted.  I needed a pretty large rug to cover the space in this room so a 6×9 bound carpet was perfect for this space.

If you remember this guest room from Dear Lillie has been the inspiration for my space.  I loved the quatrefoil rug in her room – but since I chose patterned curtains, a more subtle pattern on my bound carpet was just what I needed.

It has been over 11 years since we have looked at carpet when we had carpet installed in this house when we bought it, so I had no idea that you could get wall-to-wall carpet in patterns like this.    Isn’t this just so pretty?    I just love the quatrefoil pattern – it is subtle, yet definitely

This carpet is a 6’ x 9’ SmartStrand Forever Clean Silk bound carpet in the Tomlin Cove pattern and the color is Crystal Stream.

When Mohawk contacted me, I took a few minutes to learn about the SmartStrand Forever Clean line and wow, I was amazed!  I sure wish it had existed when we had carpet put in our house!  I will definitely be considering it when we buy a new-to-us house in the future and need to install carpet.    It is said to be the toughest, easiest to clean carpet on the planet and while other carpet may have a stain resistance that is added to it, the stain resistance in this carpet is built on and will never wear off.

I have been looking for and wanting to add rugs to various rooms in our home but I worry about stains, about them holding up and let’s face it – rugs are expensive!  But at least with this SmartStrand Forever Clean line, I won’t have to worry about stains at all.  If we happen to spill something on it or get something on it – it can be easily and completely cleaned up.

Here’s some features of the Smartstrand Forever Clean line:

  • Has Nanoloc spill protection for quick and easy spill cleanup (a new nanotechnology to protect the fiber)
  • The ONLY carpet with built-in stain and soil resistance that will NEVER wear or wash off
  • Most stains come clean with water or a little mild detergent, no harsh cleaning chemicals needed
  • Environmentally friendly because it’s made in part from renewable resources

I have finally turned the corner on our bedroom really starting to come together – just a few more things to finish!  The top of my long dresser has been sanded down and re-stained and awaiting paint later this week.  Then I just need to build the headboard, figure out the final furniture arrangement, and DECORATE!

I have enjoyed waking up to the sight of that beautiful built in bookcase and putting my feet down on the soft bound carpet.

Every time I have visited my friend Molly, I have loved how she has rugs in each room.  I knew that I wanted to add one in our bedroom since pretty much every inspiration picture I found had a rug in it and it would also help bring the gray that I have going on in the room all the way to floor.   Having a rug or a bound carpet in a room even over carpet (yes, you can do an area rug on top of carpet!) adds interest and color, it helps ground and define a space, and just adds texture to the room.

I have to share this too.  We have a cat who ahem… has the occasional hairball.    But you know what, I am completely not worried if he happens to decide to deposit that hairball on my new bound carpet.  Because Mohawk tested the Smartstrand Forever carpet in several animals enclosures at a ZOO for 3 weeks and it came completely CLEAN after cleaning with hot water.  So I think it can handle the occasional hairball! Smile

She stenciled the curtains 🙂 You could do them whatever color you need. Post is here (https://thefrugalhomemaker.com/2015/04/17/stenciled-curtains-in-the-master-bedroom/) in case you missed it.

Beautiful room!!! May I suggest you consider spraying the blades of your fan black and the gold portion silver? It would blend beautifully!

The carpet is really nice, congrats on the purchase! I agree that it’s definitely one of the best ones you can get lately. Nowadays the weak sides of the carpet are well known and innovators are trying to turn them into strong points, which is really admirable.

Oh wow! I love the colour scheme you’ve used for your bedroom. Do you remember the name and brand of that grey wall paint? I was thinking of repainting by bedroom, so I’d love to try something new.
