The Frugal Homemaker

Your guide to turning your house into a home... one DIY project and yard sale find at a time

Friday Frugal Finds–1/2 price day at Value Village

August 9, 2013

Last week was 1/2 price Wednesday at Value Village.  I posted some furniture pieces that I saw on Instgram and facebook and you guys totally loved them!

One was this headboard that I said you could totally make into a bench too.

Or paint it/distress it in some fun color and it would look amazing too.  Especially for $8.

And then you guys totally convinced me to get this chair.  It was $3.83 and the seat is in perfect shape!

In fact I came home and looked on ebay and they can actually sell unfinished for a decent amount of money??  I haven’t decided what I want to do with it yet.  Can you stain the wood/caning on the seat?  If so I would stain it darker like walnut color and then paint the chair white/distressed a little bit.  Or I thought about staining the chair dark and painting the seat part white – but wondering if the paint would chip off over time.  Any suggestions?

Some of you also wondered what was in my “mystery box”.  For $2.00 – I not only got the sterlite tote but a wooden train track set – all the pieces and even a hill/tunnel piece.  I think it is Thomas brand.  My nephews birthday is in 2 weeks and he LOVES trains so this was a great find.

I don’t always find or even remember to look at the jewelry at Value Village but I was glad I did this day.  Got a sterling silver bracelet for $1.99 and a long silver necklace for $1.99.  Have already worn them several time.

And this little green/turquoisey looking vase had to come home with me for $0.40.  Just because of the color.  Smile

There’s my finds!  Hoping to come across some good yard sales today.

Some of you linked up some fun finds last week.

Check out Decorated Chaos finds from July!

That ruffled pillow, those BRAND NEW Target lampshades, that stool.  Wow, I need to go shop her Goodwill! Smile

She also found and refinished a cute little white table too.

Flowers, Gloves, and Rubber Boots found this cute pillow and  TON more stuff at a swap meet.

Would love to see what you found or a recent decorating/makeover project on a thrifted or yard sale find.

Thanks for featuring my finds Christina! I have been looking for a chair like yours for a while now and every time I find one the seat is messed up beyond repair. That was a great score! I looked thru your pictures taken and Haven and it looks like you had a great time. I hope to go next year and if I do we can do some thrifting in Atlanta! 🙂
