DIY Fashion Bobby Pins

Welcome back for project two in this series!

This is a simple project that wasn’t necessarily inspired by one certain pin, but by all the pretty flower hairbows I see for girls, and I wanted pretty hair accessories too! Smile

I did have these 2 things pinned.

So when I was at Hobby Lobby last week, I was on the lookout for ideas for what I wanted to use for my bobby pins.

I picked up 2 packs of bobby pins in the jewelry section, and then happened to walk down the scrapbooking aisle where I found these.  They are actually brad embellishments but I thought they would be perfect for my bobby pins.

Everything was on sale for 50% off (score!), so for $6.98 I got 24 bobby pins and 32 embellishments.  And I was able to make 22 bobby pins.    If you try to buy embellished/designer bobby pins in the store, they are usually 4-6 bobby pins for $4-5, so it was much cheaper to make my own.

Now these are brads which mean they have the little tabs on the back.

Like this.

It was just thin metal and I was able to just snip the tabs off with scissors.

Make sure to get bobby pins that have a pad or a head on them.  Then I just put a dab of hot glue on the back of the brad/button thing and glued it onto the pad off the bobby pin.  You could also use super glue or another glue like that.  It took me about 15 minutes to make all of these – with snipping off all the tabs, gluing and holding for a second.

I wear 2 bobby pins to pin back my curly hair just about every day, so I am excited to have some pretty ones now! SmileDIY Fashion Bobby Pins

I am going to be on the lookout for some more little embellishments in other colors so that I can make more.

Hard to see in my mess of curly hair, but I got my husband to take a picture of one of them in my hair.

These would make a great gift as bobby pins are quite popular for teens and people of all ages to wear in different ways in their hair.
