Happy Monday! It’s time for another At Home DIY post and this month’s theme was a 2 hours DIY Challenge – basically build or DIY something in under 2 hours. I had a few projects in mind but I already bought all the materials for this project so this is the one I sharing today. Do you need some jewelry organization help? I have the perfect project for you – made in way less than 2 hours, and less than $10 – a DIY farmhouse style jewelry holder!
Materials needed:
- 2×2 board
- stain color of choice – I used Varathane Classic Penetrating stain in Early American
- 1 inch cup hooks (I wanted black metal hooks and couldn’t find any at my local hardware store so I ordered these)
- someway to hang – I used screws directly into wall but could use command strips or a picture hangar on back
After building the DIY hall tree for my porch for last month’s project it seems a bit simple to call this a “build” but unless you get the boards cut at Home Depot you will have to cut your board to size so I guess it can count as a build.
This project was simple and just took a little time to install all the hooks. I customized it to the area I planned to put it in my bathroom, but you can make it whatever length works for you and also use as many hooks as you want or need. I cut my boards to 2 feet long and then sanded the ends and sides before I stained. Once dry I marked my boards to space my hooks 1 inch apart so each board has 23 hooks.
I just screwed in the cup hooks by hand but you could also drill small pilot holes to help them go in easier.
The wood tones go so well with the rest of the wood elements I have in this bathroom. I gave our master bathroom a makeover last year on a $100 budget and it made a HUGE impact and difference. You can go here to see all the before/after posts and how I added a faux brick wall, wood shelves, framed in a mirror, and added a DIY towel rack too.
I already had the board I used for earrings – it was a yard sale find a while back and just has small chicken wire type metal in the back allowing me to hang earrings. But you could easily make a DIY version using this tutorial for this framed chicken wire frame and just do it smaller for earrings.
I actually was totally inspired to build this project after I saw my friend Jessica’s that her husband built for her for Mother’s Day. It was just gorgeous and I knew would be perfect to help me organize my jewelry. He did a rod for earrings and that would be another option.
Who knew organization could be so pretty? It has helped me so much keep my jewelry from piling up on top of the dresser too cause it’s easy to access and I want to put it away! I keep my bracelets in a vintage milk glass bowl on the top of my dresser but if you have smaller bracelets they could easily be hung on these hooks too.
Building projects can be simple and easy yet add so much organization and beauty to your home! Happy Building!
Be sure to check out all the other under 2 hours projects the other At Home DIY participants did this month – I always find something to add to my to-do list!
