Your guide to turning your house into a home... one DIY project and yard sale find at a time

Christmas Home Tour

December 22, 2016

Welcome to Christmas at our house!  This year’s tour is going to be a bit smaller/simpler than last year due to just moving (into a fixer upper house) and having a baby 6 months ago.  But I do love to decorate our home for Christmas and managed to get fseveral areas done this year.

Our Christmas front porch is the first thing to greet you.  We did a ton of work outside in the front of our house (removing a ton of overgrown bushes, painting, and more) this past year so I was excited to decorate this space.

Lanterns, some entry trees, garland, a lit wreath, and a wood slice garland add simple touches to this space.

More greenery cut from the yard and a simple ribbon dress up these yard sale find lanterns.

I found some placemats I loved and turned them into the cutest pillows for my 4 secondhand black rocking chairs.

I would love to add candles in the windows next year so I will be shopping the after-Christmas clearance sales to find a few more things.

Come in our front door and you enter into the living room – the most finished room in our home right now. Smile  I made a simple card display by attaching strips of ribbon on this closet door and then just clipping cards to it with clothespins.  I love seeing all the photo cards that come from friends and family.

This little dresser is here in the entryway for now but I would love to find something different or even build something for this space.

I hung some simple wreaths in the windows in the living room and just cozied up the whole space with pillows, throws, candles, lanterns, and of course our Christmas tree.

I did a bit of a farmhouse theme this year and love how my mantel turned out.  You can see lots more details on it in this post. DSC_0080

Our tree was a simple red/white/black theme this year featuring some big red stars and chippy wood ornaments.

Thinking these little white Target dollar spot houses will stay out for winter… already imagining a winter theme with them. Smile

This is about the extent of the decorating I did in the kitchen… except for putting my hot chocolate station from last year out on the counter.  I LOVED my Christmas kitchen last year and one day once we get our kitchen remodeled I will decorate like that again.

Because if I was to zoom out on the picture you can see what we hope to rip out and fix in phase 1 of the kitchen remodel – that 90’s linoleum!  That should be gone along with hopefully phase 2 and maybe 3 completed next year – this kitchen is going to be like a 5-6 phase remodel project as we save up money and DIY a lot of it.

And of course I couldn’t resist adding a sweet little tree in our little girls room! Smile  Oh we are so enjoying her.  I found this little pink tree for $3 at a yard sale a month or so ago and just added some white and silver ornaments on it.  I had already picked up the little white tree skirt on clearance last year when we knew we were going to have a little girl Smile

So there’s my Christmas home tour this year.  You can see last year’s tour here at our old home… it was my favorite year of decorating I did there. Smile

Always love seeing your home decorated for Christmas! You’ve had a busy year with moving AND having a baby, but your home is still decorated beautifully and you’ve incorporated so many good ideas! I especially loved the tree in your little girl’s room….what a treat for her! Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and a great 2017! Hope your first Christmas with your daughter is a special one. Blessings….

Your home is beautifully decorated! I especially love the dresser in the entryway. That piece has a lot of character and you’ve done a wonderful job with accessories. My opinion is to keep it. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!
