Your guide to turning your house into a home... one DIY project and yard sale find at a time

Christmas mantel at our new home

November 30, 2016

This post is sponsored by Kirklands.  But styling and opinions expressed are all mine.

Oh how I have missed decorating this past year!  With putting our house up for sale, moving, and a new baby…decorating, and especially seasonal decorating has definitely taken a back burner.  I never even got around to doing much fall decorating but I am so enjoying decorating for Christmas. I come up with a “theme” or a color each year for Christmas – reusing many things from past years while adding in a few new things here and there to freshen things up.  I stopped in Kirkland’s and found several things in their Christmasland collection that I absolutely loved.  They had so many styles of decor from traditional, to whimsical, to modern glam, to more of the Farmhouse style – something truly for everyone!

Any guesses to my theme this year?

If you guessed Farmhouse Christmas, you are right!  I know Farmhouse style seems to be a trend right now,  but honestly I loved rustic finds, old windows, white trim, dark stained wood and more way before Fixer Upper came on the scene.  So I love being able to see so much inspiration and find so many things to bring my “modern farmhouse” style into my home.

So here’s my Farmhouse Christmas mantel and a sneak peek into my Christmas living room at our new home.

I think these wood carved trees were the first things I picked up at Kirkland’s – I can rarely pass up chippy paint. Smile  They make the perfect centerpiece for a table or could be displayed across a mantel or table.

They found a home on my coffee table nestled on a white platter among some fresh greens and faux snow.

I went sort of simple this year with my mantel but I find that is becoming more and more my style.  I love to use things like the rustic window and some DIY farmhouse shutters, lanterns and bench that aren’t necessarily Christmas but by adding some greenery or lights or a touch of red it looks perfect for Christmas.

Once again the chippy paint drew me in… this large pallet wood Joy sign (similar ones here) looks great on my hearth but could really be used in so many places.  Kirkland’s had so many pallet style signs I had such a hard time deciding – I wanted them all!

And oh these painted mini wood ornament signs… can those get any cuter?!  And they look perfect on my tree hung with mini clothespins and twine.

It has taken a while for this new home to feel like “home” as we work on fixing it up and making it more our style.  But there’s just something about decorating for Christmas that makes it seem so cozy and feel like home.

My husband loves old cars so when I saw this vintage looking truck and that it lit up too I had to grab it.  Paired with a plaid throw and a striped pillow it looks perfectly farmhouse to me.

And of course I had to have the matching truck pillow.

There were so many things I loved in the Christmasland collection – here’s a style board of a few of my other favorites from the collection.  You can check out all of these and more on Kirklands.com.

So what’s your theme this Christmas?  Need to add a few need pieces – you might want to pop in Kirkland’s and check out what they have!

And here’s a fun opportunity for you… Kirkland’s has released a new tagline called “Your Doorway To Home.” They want to not only be a place where you shop for home decor but where you are inspired to create your Home Sweet Home.   Kirkland’s wants to see how customers are decorating their front doors for Christmas with Kirkland’s Christmasland products.  So share a photo of your decorated front door by December 4th with the hashtag #DoorwayToChristmaslandContest on Instagram for a chance to win one of five $100 Kirkland’s gift cards.

It’s so, so pretty at your house. My DIL and grandsons made me some wooden Christmas trees last year. I think I will look for a white platter and display them like you have for a centerpiece. Thanks for the idea!

Your Christmas mantel and other decor is so inspiring and delightfully pleasing to see, I can hardly stop looking! I’ve looked and looked online and cannot find that truck ANYwhere. It’s soooo cute! Did it come from Kirkland’s also? Merry Christmas!
