I love adding homemade touches to my Christmas décor. I just think it is a fun, personal way to add a bit of yourself into your décor.
When I saw these wood ornaments at Michael’s I knew I wanted to add them to my tree and knew just how I would personalize them.
I love chalky finish paint mixed with wood because it distresses so pretty and also sands to a super smooth finish. I painted the wood snowflakes with 2 coats of Everlasting (white), the trees with Fortune (green), and the Merry Christmas discs with Romance (red).
Then I wanted to emphasize the engraved wording part on the trees and round ornaments…
So I grabbed this black paint DecoArt paint pen and traced inside the letters.
All of them got a light sanding, distressing the edges, and I applied dark wax on the red and green ornaments and clear wax on the white snowflakes. I couldn’t get the jute to go back through the tiny hole so I used red and white baker’s twine which I love!
They are so pretty on my tree!
I love the vintage look that this red ornament has.
And the distressing sort of looks like snow on the edges of the branches of the tree.
And the snowflakes are probably my favorite! I may have to go buy and paint at least 4 more.
I am doing a rustic red and white theme this year on a flocked tree and these were the perfect touch.
Do you like to add homemade ornaments or Christmas décor to your home? How would you paint these wood ornaments?

So simple, but so pretty and nostalgic.

I am not very crafty but this is something I could do! 🙂 Where did you get those ornaments at?
Christina says
Michael’s! They were $1.49 or $1.99 each but I got them on sale for 60% off 🙂

DAH! Never mind I re-read this post and saw that you got them at Michaels’. Sorry.

One more comment and I am done. When you say you use dark and clear wax……what kind of wax are you talking about? (Hahahaha! I told you I am not crafty.)
Christina says
sorry I should have been more clear. The dark and clear wax is part of the DecoArt Chalky Finish line. It is a sealer/protectant that you use on top of chalky finish paint.
