31 days to Love the Home You Have

This post is part of a 31 day series – 31 days to Love the Home You Have.  I am blogging through the 31 day challenge in the back of the book “Love the Home You Have” by Melissa Michaels of The Inspired Room.  You can read all the posts in the series so far here.  And to make sure you don’t miss a post you can sign up to have every post delivered to your inbox , or follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram to get even more home decorating ideas and inspiration to help you fall in love with your home.

When you open a drawer or closet and see a fun pop of color or pretty design does it make you smile?  I love those kind of things! Smile  It isn’t something that maybe anyone but you may see but when you open that closet/drawer it makes you happy.   Sometimes just having an organized area can do the same thing.

I have never lined any of my dresser drawers with paper or shelf liner but I would love to do that one day.  I think a thrifted dresser that has been given an updated look with some paint can be taken to a whole another level by adding some fun scrapbook paper, shelf liner paper, or wrapping paper to the bottom of the drawers.  I have even see dressers where the entire outside is painted one color but the sides of the drawers when you open them is a totally different color.  It’s just fun and doesn’t require that much extra work.

I love the little pop of color and design that backing my built in bookshelf in master bedroom with some pretty removable wallpaper added to that whole area.  If I would have just left the back white, things displayed on the shelves could get a bit lost.

But what about closets?  I added these DIY shelf liners in my linen closet to help things not tip over on the shelves but they also add a fun pop of color and surprise to the closet too.

And all the glass jars and baskets and chalkboard labels make me smile when I open my pantry door.  Plus my pantry stays so much better organized and neat than it ever has before.

What small surprises do you have in your home or could you add to your home to bring a fun bit of happiness to maybe an otherwise boring drawer or closet?

Challenge: Think of an area you could add a pop of color, line a drawer with some pretty paper, or maybe add some labels to add a happy surprise to an unexpected area in your home.
