Your guide to turning your house into a home... one DIY project and yard sale find at a time

Christmas at our home

December 23, 2014

Welcome to our home at Christmastime…

DSC_0992

I am not going to call this a home tour because honestly it is just a few rooms and if you have seen some “Christmas home tours” this month, and are expecting that in this post, it’s just not going to happen.  But this is OUR home at Christmas and I love it.  Filled with thrift store and yard sale finds from the furniture, décor, and even Christmas décor picked up through the years; intermixed with clearance finds, things I have made, and a few store bought pieces I add each year; and decorated in traditional Christmas colors and many rustic/natural elements as well like burlap, pinecones, logs, berries, and more.    Our home and décor is not elaborate or even expensive, but it is cozy and warm and it is HOME.  Our haven from the world, the place where we live and make memories, where we can be at peace.

I will keep the talking to a minimum and just let you take a peek at the pictures (cause that’s what you are here for anyways! Smile)

I have so loved this simple layered thrift store wreath!  I may have to find a way to keep it for winter.

I just love our Christmas front porch.

Let’s take a step inside and peek into the living room.

Even though it is a dark, dreary day outside the room is just AGLOW with Christmas lights and candles.

We don’t burn wood in our fireplace but these candles and a candle stand gotten as a wedding present years ago gives the same effect.

Our tree this year decorated in plaid and burlap ribbon, red/brown/gold ornaments, pinecones, berries, swirly sticks, and homemade cinnamon scented ornaments.  All things reused from previous years made into a new theme this year.

The mantel is adorned with some DIY art and many yard sale finds and decorated with red, greens and whites and candlelight and Christmas lights.

Yes, I LOVE my lanterns.  I use them all throughout my home and to decorate for events.

The little sweater wrapped candles were a new purchase this year – $3.00 from Walmart.  (Hoping to find some more on clearance after Christmas!)

If we take a walk upstairs you will see my Hallmark snowmen collection which I collected the first few years of our marriage.    I just love snowmen and these are so fun and sing a different Christmas song.

My nieces and nephew (ages 3-7) spend the night with us often so they have little trees in our guest room/their rooms.  This is my nephews Snoopy and blue ornament tree in his room.

And this is the sight I see when I get to the top of the stairs – I just adore this white pre-lit tree with pastel lights!  It  was a $3 yard sale find the first weekend of December and made 2 little girls (and their aunt) very happy!  Could not be more perfect!

I am smiling a bit at the multitude of ornaments on the bottom branches – but they did a good job decorating it.

I am on the lookout for a white or flocked skinny tree to go in our bedroom for next year!  Would be so pretty in our gray bedroom!

Now let’s walk back down the stairs into the living room…

And take a peek into the kitchen.

Oh, how I love these chalky painted mason jars I made this year!  They may have to stay out for Valentine’s Day. Smile

And then we can head back out down the entryway.

And yes, there is mistletoe Winking smile  Right by the front door so I can greet my husband when he comes from work.

I truly do enjoy our home… It is not perfect, it is not in our ideal location … but as I look around I am reminded that we are blessed and I am thankful that it feels like HOME, not just a house.

It truly is “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”… as we enjoy memories made with our little family, the beauty found all around ,and most importantly celebrate the birth of our Savior and marvel at the wonder of it all.  That He would come to earth as a little baby to then one day give His life that we may have eternal life – the greatest gift of all!

Merry Christmas from our home to yours, from me to you!!  May you truly have a blessed Christmas.

I love all of it but especially your candles! And so sweet of you to have some special small trees for the kiddos to enjoy when there! God bless in 2015! And one quick question–maybe you can let me know on FB or whatever, what settings did you use for your last Christmas bokeh photo?!! It’s gorgeous! Something I still haven’t figured out! Did you do the tiny hold in paper trick? Thanks!
