Entryway before and after (beige to GREIGE with Behr paint!)

July 29, 2014

Entryway before after with new Behr paint

So I have been plugging along in repainting our house.  If you missed it before, I am a partnering with Behr paint as a Behr DIY Expert again this year and it couldn’t have come at a better time.  We painted our entire house when we moved in 10 years ago and except for a few rooms that have had color changes the main areas of our home and the bedrooms upstairs still have the original paint (Classic Taupe by Behr).  Over time the paint has faded a bit and I couldn’t just buy a can and touch up marks.  And if I was going to repaint, I really wanted to change the color a bit to a less warm/tan color to a more cool grey/greige color.

entryway before

I really haven’t liked how yellow and even a hint of pinkish tan that the walls have looked like especially in pictures.

So here’s the entryway hall before with Classic Taupe.

entryway before

You can see that I was trying out some color samples already.  On the left of the door is Wheat Bread by Behr and on the right is a popular greige color called Revere Pewter from Benjamin Moore color matched in Behr paint.  Did you know that you can just ask at the paint counter at Home Depot and they have many of the formulas for popular colors of other paint companies already in their system?  Love that!

I honestly could tell very little difference between Revere Pewter and Wheat Bread – the Revere Pewter may have looked just a hint greyer and the Wheat Bread just a hint warmer but it was very close to the same color.

And here’s the after!  I love how the white trim pops so much more with the newer cool greige color.

Here’s some before/after shots next to each other.

The lighting is not good at all in the entryway so excuse all the shadows but you can see my diamond painted wall in the living room with the entryway in this picture.

I made a few décor changes as well.  The big metal piece was on 80% clearance from Hobby Lobby and for now it hangs there instead of my gallery wall that I had that needed to be reworked anyways.    The dresser is a yard sale find I repainted and the light is a spray painted thrift store find.

I love the change!  I also went from flat paint to eggshell and I love the new sheen and it is so much easier to wipe down too!  I need to get busy painting the upstairs and show you the living room next.  I already painted and showed you the repainted eat-in-kitchen and my diamond painted accent wall in the living room.

Disclosure: I was provided paint from Behr to complete this project but all opinion and thoughts expressed are all mine.

I have the same grayish color in our office. It is also eggshell. I wish I had stayed with something in the tan color spectrum though. I guess I am more traditional in colors.
It had to be fun though to get a new color for free!

That looks beautiful. What is the room on the right with the curtain in the doorway? Just curious!

So funny because I painted most rooms Wheat Bread about 3 years ago & have been working towards getting rid of it this year. It never really worked with our furniture liked I had hoped. Looks great in your space.

I like the before better! 😉 But I am partial to warmer tones and I think it brings out the white trim and door more.

Sorry if I missed reading or seeing this above, but which color was the final choice for the after, Wheat Bread or the Behr color match to the Revere Pewter? Thanks!

That’s at least three of us and probably more, that would like to know which color she finally used!!! All these “bloggers” do the same annoying thing- they write blah, blah , blah, and then never tell you what you wanted to know– like politicians!! So annoying!!

I just wanted to let you know that I linked to your blog today as I blogged about the fact that I, too, want to go from beige to gray. I love your before (beige) and after (gray) pics. Love the gray!

I wanted to find out about the name of the gray color you finally used in the hall way. Makes the hall way look very neat, I have a similar situation and would like to use this gray.

    Thanks

I was wondering the same thing! Then I noticed when I hovered over the picture it says “Entryway After – Wheat Bread by Behr”. So I guess that’s it. 🙂

Just wondering if you’re reviewing Behr paint why you didn’t use their colors rather than just their base…you didn’t identify whether the base was Marqee, Ultra or Premium Plus nor the finish,, e.g. flat, matte, eggshell. Behr offers a color PPU24-11 that is very close to BM Revere Pewter. I use BM paint frequently and find their formulations are not true when using other than BM’s bases.

The wall looks beautiful, but now you need to change your floor. That’s the thing about redecorating, one thing demands another thing. Replacing that tile with wood-look tile would really bring it right up to date.
