The Frugal Homemaker

Your guide to turning your house into a home... one DIY project and yard sale find at a time

Frugal Friday Finds: lots of pillows, IKEA curtains, and decor

May 2, 2014

I was so happy to finally get a chance to do some yard sale shopping last weekend!  In between crazy schedules and rain almost every weekend, I hadn’t shopped a yard sale in over a month.

I picked up this metal star for $1.00 at my parking lot yard sale.

And this metal/rattan basket for $1.00.  I love metal baskets and the natural texture of baskets!  I am always looking for good baskets, containers, bins.  They are so useful and can be used all throughout the house.

Then it was 1/2 price day at Value Village this week.  I was specifically looking for feather/down pillows and I found some!

Now, don’t think I have fallen off my rocker… these were strictly bought for the down pillows inside, NOT for the covers.  I had to cut the plaid cover off, and the pink one immediately went back to the donate pile.  I am going to wash up the burnt orange one and may keep that one for fall.  They were all $2.69 each but 1/2 off made them $1.35!  AWESOME price for 18×18 feather pillow inserts.  I now have enough to have all feather pillows in my living room – I just LOVE how they hold their shape and fluff back up.    Going to reuse all the other regular pillow inserts I have for pillows outside.

By the way, I know this might not be what you are supposed to do with them – but I wash the feather pillow forms in hot water with bleach or oxiclean (I even used a little vinegar this time – great for disinfecting!) and dry them in the dryer.  They come out nice and fluffy and perfect – never have had problems.  No way that I wouldn’t wash and dry them first.

I also picked up this small oval basket for $1.21.  Will be great for helping to organize papers.

And another regular pillow for $1.25.  I want a white duvet cover for our room so trying to pick up some pillows that will go well with that.

I picked these up the week before at Value Village so they weren’t 1/2 off but still an awesome deal!  Set of 2 IKEA curtains for $3.99.  I love IKEA curtains because they are long!  So hard to find 96 or 102 inch curtains other places.

I may have to do some curtain swapping after painting the new color in my living room (don’t worry, still will use my striped curtains somewhere), so these may be a possibility for there.  Got them washed and dried, need to iron them and try them out the living room.

So there’s my finds from the past week!  What did you find?

    Hi Christina,
I didn’t get to any yard sales, but found a great three legged stool with a side handle at one of my favorite thrift stores for only $3.98! It’s going to be a “refinishing project” for my husband! I always love seeing your frugal finds and reading your posts – looking forward to hearing about the projects you’ve been working on!
    Blessings,
    Lanita

I love all your deals, great job! I am so jealous how many feather pillows you have found. How can you tell if a pillow has a feather insert? I have bought 5 pillows and when I got into them they weren’t.
