I made just a few inexpensive, 5 minute changes in the kitchen and thought I would show you.
This picture was taken back in January when I did my eat in kitchen home tour post. I have a whole list of things I want to change in the eat in kitchen in that post along with some things I love.
Shortly after that, I did some decluttering and removed the cookbook stand from that corner. No $ spent, clutter gone, hopefully will make a few $ on the stand in a yard sale, and the kitchen was already looking better.
I also wanted to simplify and change up the art work in the kitchen. But I was sort of stuck with this wall and the décor on it for one reason.
Those are actually ceramic trivets (I think old Southern Living pieces) but the middle one has a secret. He is hiding an ugly phone wall plate. Oh yes, it is ugly in all it’s cream/paint covered glory.
Now I am sure there is some way that you can remove this plate but then that would require patching up the wall and somehow capping off a phone line and that is above my DIY expertise or time allowance right now.
So for now, he just needs to stay hidden. And I found the perfect thing to hide it under. A kitchen rules sign!
I found it at Kohl’s a week or so ago and LOVED it! It is the perfect colors for my kitchen and I liked the sayings on it.
It was $39.99 but if shop at Kohl’s you know they always have everything at least 50-60% off. So with a 60% sale + 30% off coupon (for using my Kohl’s card) + $10 off coupon, I paid less than $5 for it. I LOVE shopping at Kohl’s… love, love, love their coupon/discount policy. (Not getting paid to say that, just my honest opinion.)
You might have noticed another change too – and this one was free! I love my coffee filter wreath but recently had been thinking that I was tired of the way I had it hanging – the ribbon hangar + bow was looking a little too country for me. So I took off the ribbon and bow, added a fall pick of leaves/berries and moved it to the pantry door. (I hung both of my wreaths on these doors with a simple command hook. I leave the hooks there year round and will just change out the one wreath seasonally.)
Now it looks a bit more updated and has a nice touch of fall! I just pinned the pick in with a large pin so I can easily change it out later. Want to know how to make this wreath – follow my simple tutorial here. Costs less than $2 and is simple and fun to make – you can do it in brown or white.
I dug a fall wreath out of my fall décor bin that I picked up this last year for $2 and added it to the back door.
I am loving this small change and loving the touch of fall popping up around the house. Sometimes it doesn’t take any money at all or even just a few dollars to make a few simple changes to freshen up a room.
Got a room that could use some freshening up? Why not just rearrange a few things, add something from another room, or add one new things and see if that makes the difference.
Some seasonal décor never hurt either!
(Oh, plan to sell those trivets in a yard sale this month so will probably make back the $5 I spent on the kitchen rules sign + some more. )
