The Frugal Homemaker

Your guide to turning your house into a home... one DIY project and yard sale find at a time

Friday Frugal Finds: games, pillows, and Tupperware + link up YOUR finds!

June 7, 2013

Here’s my frugal finds from last week.  First up Value Village finds.

I found these games (I buy them to give as gifts as well as buy games for us when I find one we don’t have.)

buying games as gifts at thrift stores

The Scattergories game by itself was $1.81 and the Scattergories game that was bundled with another game was $2.42.  Not sure if I will keep the other game or not.

I found a game at a yard sale that I really wanted to get but she wanted $6 and would only come down to $5.  I am spoiled by Value Village prices and have a hard time paying over $2-2.50 for a game!   What is your target price for games?

thrift store pillows

I was super inspired when I house crashed Molly by all her fun pillows on her bed, couches, chairs, everywhere!  So I mentally added that to my list as something I really want to start looking intentionally.  I always did look for pillows even just to find good pillow forms, but I am really wanting to look for pretty pillows too!

I found these 2 pillows at Value Village – one was 99¢ and the other one was $1.49.  They were both in great shape.  And the brown one goes very well in my living room.  The blue one I think may be an outdoor pillow and I may end up using it on my front porch bench.

By the way, when I buy pillows, or any kind of linens especially, at thrift stores or yard sales, I bring them inside in the bag that I bought them in and go straight upstairs to the laundry room.  I wash them immediately in hot water, and dry on high heat.  No sitting around in my house at all.  You don’t want to risk bed bugs!

Tupperware yard sale find

Then I found these 2 containers at a yardsale for $1.00.  The blue one is actually Tupperware brand and was $1.00.  The other one is Rubbermaid brand but I find that I use these pourable type containers all the time for cereal and other things.  You can see I had already put it to use after I washed it, before I could even get a picture of it!

Here’s a few highlights from the linkup from last week.

Blue Willow House found this pink depression measuring cup from the 1930’s at Goodwill!  You won’t believe how much she paid – click over and see!

House of Hawthornes found this metal sap bucket and vintage metal lunch box – putting the dahlias in the bucket was an accident but I LOVE that look!

We Call It Junkin’ had someone give her this vintage pyrex.

Now it’s your turn!  Link up your frugal find or how you transformed or decorated with a thrift store, yard sale, or frugal find.

    Christina,
Thanks for sharing your frugal finds – I always enjoy those posts! I’m curious about the pillows…..when you wash them in hot water and dry on high heat, have you noticed any fading of the pillow fabric, or any misshapen pillows. I haven’t bought pillows at thrift stores or yard sales because would definitely wash them, but wasn’t sure about the outcome. Please share!
    Thanks,
    Lanita

My mom has the green pyrex casserole dish with the cover! True vintage, ha! I love fun pillows too… hate that they are SO expensive most places. Seems like even GW will price the nice ones ridiculously.
Now that we’ve moved, I am back to GW shopping instead of my fave thrift store. There is one five minutes away that isn’t too bad, but I miss my fave store!

Thank you so much for featuring my post. I have been following you for about a year and a half since I found your blog on The Nester’s 31 Day Challenge. I’m linking up an older post today because it is one of my favorite frugal finds.
