Your guide to turning your house into a home... one DIY project and yard sale find at a time

Simplify…kitchen cabinets, drawers, and countertops

January 18, 2012

simplify button

So I am still plugging away at trying to rid my house of junk and create a more simplified, clean home.   Anyone else doing the same?

Next on the list was the kitchen cabinets, drawers, and countertops.

And when you start with this…

and this…

and this …

you know you have your work cut out for you!

So since you all know how this goes (remove stuff from cabinet or drawer, purge any unused/unneeded item(s), wipe out cabinet or drawer, put everything back in organized fashion), I will just show you before and after pictures and limit the talking.  Again, my “afters” are not pretty because I am not investing in all the pretty little organizers and I actually need to use not just make look “pretty” every inch of my cabinet space, but they are clean, purged, and organized enough for me.

And the countertops are all cleaned, de-cluttered too.  Much better!

And even better is I now have huge bin of stuff for my big yard sale this spring – yay!

Still no one is doing any de-cluttering projects??  Wow, I know I am behind seems like everyone in everything in life right now, but surely someone has some junk they are cleaning out! Smile

If so, link up your project below.

Since this is sort of a kitchen-themed week, I will be back tomorrow with a special guest post to all about organizing your meals and menu in way that simplifies your time!

The next Simplify project is bathrooms so I am heading off to clean out bathroom cabinets and drawers and will share next week.

Yes, I am trying to organize and declutter too! I’ve finished the broom closet and I’ve got a few other closets just about finished and next is the kitchen! My yard sale pile is growing too. 🙂

I don’t know how you still have stuff to take to Goodwill – wow! 🙂

I guess if I didn’t hoard it all in the garage for a yardsale I would be taking truckloads too. 🙂

This post made me smile, especially the pot cupboard. If I posted like this on my blog some of my fastidious relatives would be horrified and never visit my blog again. But I am thankful for your honesty and am about to go and tidy my house! xx

haha – your comment made me smile! I have one of those “relatives” too! My MIL! I don’t think I have ever seen a piece of dirt on her carpet or more than 2 specks of dust in her house, yet she talks about how her house is “filthy”. She must think mine is pig-sty! LOL! 🙂

But I am working on it. 🙂

    Your progress looks great!

No real decluttering going on here – we just moved this summer so I purged a LOT before moving. I do have some organizing I’ll be doing once we get the rest of our furniture over from our old house after we finally close. I am really looking forward to finishing unpacking!

I have thought about that several times while purging – would I even want to keep as much as I am if were moving?? Ughhh… think I would purge even more – LOL! 🙂

I really love the afters. I need to do that too. I am starting small with the mail. I hope to attack larger projects soon. It really looks great and what a great motivation for the rest of us.

Yes, the “afters” in person and in pictures are so motivating 🙂 That is what is keeping me going. 🙂
