No frugal finds lately (is it just me or was Christmas clearance this year basically non-existent – no Christmas lights, hardly an ornament to be found??) I even went in Goodwill and Value Village earlier this week after several friends raved about their Goodwill being packed and shelves overflowing. Our Goodwill was horribly picked over and I came away from both stores with nothing.
But my little nieces (ages 2 1/2 and 4) were over today so we decided to have some fun in the kitchen!
We made sugar cookies – Laine’s chewy sugar cookies to be exact. If you haven’t tried her recipe yet, you are missing out! I am not a crunchy cookie fan, but chewy cookies… oh my, yes! So Laine has saved me forever from crunchy sugar cookies and converted me to the BEST ever SOFT, chewy sugar cookie. (Warning: you may want to just eat it by the spoonful – don’t ask me how I know this.)
So we mixed them up and then the girls helped me roll them in sugar.
Once they were cool, we frosted them with very thin buttercream icing. They did a really good job at this!
And we then decorated them to look like snowmen from an idea I found on Pinterest!!
But since we live in GA and it was in the 60’s today so our snowmen melted fast….
Here are some of the different designs we did – pink scarves for the girls, green scarves for the boys, bow ties and hats for the boys, pink hair bows for more girls, and boys with green buttons. I think my nieces would have named them all if we would have had time.
Here’s my oldest niece showing off her cookie.
and better yet . . . taking the first bite!
Mmmmmm…
So if you are in need of some fun, here’s the instructions on how to make these cookies! And for all of you that just started diets, sorry – maybe you can make them and send them to school with your kids!
Happy Winter (from GA where it is 60 degrees in January! )
Have you found any frugal finds lately or had some family fun? I would love to hear about it!

It was fun! I liked decorating these cookies much better than just shaped sugar cookies. They are much cuter 🙂

So cute!!! Love the hershey kiss hat! And your nieces are adorable. I know they LOVE doing projects like this with you!

On a whim, I thought, “why not add a hersheys kiss as a hat!” Thought it turned out cute. 🙂 I actually was thinking I could do a mini Reese’s as a top hat but didn’t have any 🙁
They do love it, but it always seem to make a lot of work for me. I had to do the piping while they were napping. Think next time we are doing plain ‘ole chocolate chip cookies. mix, scoop, bake – DONE! lol! 😉
