DIY Christmas Hoop Wreath

November 27, 2017

This post is part of a series entitled “12 DIYs of Christmas”.  You can see all the projects and post in this series here.

On the first day of Christmas I crafted a DIY Christmas Hoop Wreath!

Have you seen wreaths like these?  They are popping everywhere – even Joanna Gaines had something similiar in her Hearth and Hand line at Target.  This was a very easy and quick project and I just love how it turned out!

Here’s the supplies you need: (affliate links provided for your convenience)

  • a 12 embroidery hoop (you can find this at any craft store) I got mine 1/2 off at Michaels for $1.50
  • greenery sprigs – I picked up 2 flocked ones at Michael’s for $1.24 each
  • berries or additional embellishements
  • hot glue
  • ribbon

There are so many different ways you can customize this so be creative and find something unique that you love!

I originally thought I would stain the embroidery wreath with a dark walnut stain, but when I thought about it hanging it on my large chalkboard in the kitchen, I really loved the contrast with the light wood on the chalkboard with the dark frame.  But you could totally stain or paint the embroidery hoop first.  Then I just wrapped some wire around the sprigs of greenery and the hoop.  I was going to hotglue it but wire worked better for being able to bend and shape it in place.   Seriously, 2 minutes later I had this.

So many different ways to decorate it – I had thought about hanging some type of ornament or bells in the middle, and you can add all kinds of things from berries to birds to stars or any kind of things to the greenery.

I wanted a simple look so I just added the touch of red berries and then hung it with some black and white check ribbon.  I am doing black and white with subtle pops of red for my Christmas decor this year so this fits perfectly.

It’s so pretty and simple over my kitchen chalkboard!  The chalky painted mason jars was another DIY project from several years back and this year I stuck them in a dough bowl surrounded with some greenery.  Christmas decorating doesn’t have to be expensive or require lots of work.. just grab or make some simple festive touches, add some greenery from the yard, and its done!

Simple, festive, inexpensive and easy!  My kind of decor! Smile

How would you decorate a hoop wreath?  I’m thinking I will be making quite a few more in the future – remove the red berries and its perfect for winter, and grab some pretty fern type greenery to make one for spring… the possibilities are endless.
