The Frugal Homemaker

Your guide to turning your house into a home... one DIY project and yard sale find at a time

Rustic Window Picture Display

March 27, 2017

I have a fun and free project to share today that added some personalized decor to our guest bathroom.

Remember this is where I started after I painted over the bright pink walls.

And now this is what it looks like!  I added the DIY towel hooks and then added some picture display art above it.

I didn’t take before or during pictures but this was fast and easy.  I had an old window frame with no glass in my stash that I saved for a project like this or to use outside.  I had spray painted it white a few years ago but the wood is rough in some spots and the paint was all uneven so I knew I wanted to make it look even a bit more rustic to use in here.  I just wiped some Varathane Briarsmoke stain right on top of the white paint and let it dry.  Then I grabbed some jute twine and some mini clothespins all from my craft stash and just hot glued some pieces of twine to the back of each of the panes.  To hang it on the wall I screwed some picture hooks on the back.

Then it was just filling it up with pictures!  My favorite part.  I chose some beach pictures just because beach and bathrooms seem to sort of go together.  Some pictures of just the two of us when we had pictures done at the beach several years ago and some from when we went to the beach with our little girl this past Labor Day.  It will be fun to switch them out as she grows – I can’t wait to see her reaction to the sand and water this summer! So other than the $1.00 or so that I spent on the prints this project was completely free!  The window was a free flea market trash find from several years ago.

Wouldn’t the photos get ruined in the humidity after a shower?….
