The Frugal Homemaker

Your guide to turning your house into a home... one DIY project and yard sale find at a time

Playroom/Boys Bedroom

August 24, 2016

Today I am sharing another room from our old house I don’t think I ever shared on the blog.  It’s amazing what you whip into shape when your home goes on the market Winking smile

This was our 3rd bedroom at our old house.  It was sort of just a spare bedroom with no purpose and completely filled with junk for a while.  Then I got it all cleaned up, and it served as a bedroom for my nephew when he stayed with us and also a kids playroom for my nieces/nephew or any kids that visited.  We also used it many times as a second guest room for kids of a family visiting or a single person who visited.  I stored all my craft and decorating supplies in the closet.

Lots of thrifted finds and DIY projects went into this room too.  I painted the walls in Still Gray by Behr and also painted the curtains just like I did my living room curtains using this method.  The headboard and footboard were a $10 yardsale find that I painted and showed you here.   The bench/cubby unit came from Ikea and all the decor/pillows/lamp all came from thrift stores or yard sales.

The dresser was a yard sale find that I painted and showed you here.

I love how this room came together!  It was the first time that I had put together a more kid-themed room and it was a lot of fun!  All kinds of toys were stored away in those bins and cubbies, in that large basket, in a large pull out bin under the bed, and used as decor around the room.    I like when things can be organized and not all in plain sight.

Dress-up clothes hung behind the door.  When we had people visit or over for dinner it was nice to just show their kids this room and let them have fun!

I love how practical IKEA Kallax units are for storage and organization!  And the Better Homes and Gardens fabric bins from Walmart are very reasonably priced and hold up great.

My nephew is a huge Curious George fan so cars, Curious George, and the color blue were some of his favorite things that I incorporated into the room.

The nightstand I created by just stacking 2 wood crates on top of each other.

Lots of room to play, color, sit, and lots of toys hidden in those bins

So that was our 2nd guest bedroom/kids room/playroom.  It will be a much different set up in our new house and I’m anxious to see how that turns out.

Here’s the before when we bought our house…

And here’s how it looked when we listed the house Smile

This whole guest room/playroom will be a totally different set up in our new house so I am anxious to see how it turns out.
