Friday Finds: What I have been picking up for our bedroom makeover

August 22, 2014

I haven’t had time to do much yard saling or thrifting recently and I have really been focused on finding, working on, and planning for our bedroom makeover.  So I thought today I would share some things I have picked up over the last month or two for our bedroom makeover.

One of the big things I needed for the room was bedding.  And I had decided on white bedding.  I found this white comforter set at Walmart in their Better Homes and Gardens line of products (which I LOVE!).  It was an awesome price at $39.99 – totally affordable and if things go way wrong with white bedding  I am not out a lot of money at all to replace it (a little nervous about that but have asked several friends that even have kids and they said their white bedding stays clean or there is always bleach and they love theirs!)  And our cat is white so that should help too! Smile

Here’s the picture from Walmart’s site – it has pintucks all over it is so pretty!  This same set comes in gray too.  My 2 local stores didn’t have it in stock so I had to order it online but was shipped to my house for free.

I picked up these 2 throws at Value Village in the last few months for super cheap, like $1.50 each.  Still on lookout for more!  Would like a white one and a teal/turquoise one.

Some of these you may have seen in previous posts but here’s some pillows I have been gathering for the room.

A set I found at Goodwill a few weeks ago.

And these are the only “new” pillows I have bought so far – the ruffled one was from JCPenney and on clearance and I had a $10 off coupon so I only paid $2.99.  And the chevron fuzzy one was actually from Aldi and was $4.99!

I hit up Kohl’s the other day with a few coupons I had to use.  Was looking for some dressy, casual work clothes for several blogger/work events I have coming up and also browsed their home décor.  And I racked up that night!  They had shelf after shelf of clearance in the home section some of it up to 80% off and then I had an additional coupon for 30% off of that!   I will have to see once the room is painted, new furniture, etc. if all of this works – so some may go back but I really do like all of it.

Lantern and candle – think the candle ended up being around $1.00

These weren’t on clearance but I loved the gold frames and the teal – I may see if I could DIY them cheaper but I doubt it since they were $12.99 after all the discounts.  Have to see if they work in the room too!

This was a $99 mirror on clearance for $29.99 and I paid less than $20 for it!

And I loved this artwork too.  I think I paid $8.00 for it  – that is like thrift store prices!  It was originally $79.99.

Really hoping I can use some if not all of this in the room.

And this mirror I actually picked up at TJMaxx a couple weeks ago.  It was my first BIG find for the room and I LOVE it.   I think it was $29.99 and I had like $10 left on a gift card.  BUT now that I am going a bit darker with the wall color I am not sure if it is going to work?   Which is why I bought the turquoise one from Kohl’s.    So I hung it over the fireplace for now and I have to see it looks pretty awesome there too. Smile

So there’s some of the things I have picked up cheap for the room!  I had $100 in birthday money I had stashed away so was able to get the bedding and pretty much all of the store bought décor with that and like I said a few pieces may have to be returned.

I plan to have some updates in the room to show you next week!  I haven’t had time to do much this week because of hosting a shower at my house this weekend but our new bedframe is here, painting has begun, and I hope to get at least one piece of the furniture completely finished next week.  And going to list the old furniture, bedding, and décor on craigslist or yard sale sites this weekend so will take that money to buy building materials for the headboard and shelves.

Do you have some DIY/decorating/home related plans this weekend?  What’s on your to do list or on your to-find list?

Love all of your great finds, especially the pillows and the decor from Kohl’s! The mirror and the floral piece of artwork are my favorite! Keep the gray mirror over your fireplace and use the tourquoise one in the bedroom…..I love that color with the gray! Can’t wait tosee how it turns out!!

Love the bedding! I was planning on getting something similar for my room, but David would not let me do the white as he was afraid it would get nasty too easily (he’s probably right.) I ended up finding something I love. I’m also looking for throws for the kids’ reading nook, but I can never find any nice ones at VV. You seem to find them all the time! Looks like you’ve got a really great start on getting what you need for your room!

They best advice I ever got was “keep all linens white no matter what!” that way when you want to change things up with a little color it’s not so expensive! and if something gets on them there is ALWAYS bleach and oxi clean!!! Can’t wait to see the big reveal!!

PS have you chosen a winner for the mason jar give away and I missed it?!

Gorgeous finds! I’ve been wanting that sunflower mirror. Hope I’d get that before the year ends. It’s really perfect for my white charcoal gray theme for 2015.
