Bringing in Spring in the Living Room

April 21, 2014

Spring means two things in our home – spring cleaning + refreshing/bringing in spring indoors by adding color/new décor/plants/flowers inside.

A trip to Home Depot enabled me to pick up all the things on my list and I got my living room ready for spring in no time.

I picked up some Mr. Clean with Febreze, Bounty paper towels, and Febreze Air Effects.

I sprayed all my linens and pillows I brought out of storage with the febreze to refresh them for spring.

Then I diluted the Mr. Clean in a spray bottle.  I love that it can be used on finished wood, floors, pretty much anywhere.

In no time, I had this dusty mess cleaned up with the Bounty paper towels and Mr. Clean cleaner.

Now that the room was clean, time to decorate!  I knew that I wanted to add some new plants to our home as a few of mine weren’t looking too great.  I found this beautiful cat palm at Home Depot that I knew would look great in the living room.  And I loved these tulips when I saw them at Home Depot and knew they were would make a perfect centerpiece on the coffee table.    Once they wilt, I will take the bulbs and plant them outdoors so I can enjoy them next year outside in my garden.

Want to bring a pot of flowers, a gift of spring, to a friend?  Here’s an easy way to dress up a plain pot of flowers to either display yourself indoors or on your porch or to gift.  Grab a scrap of material either cut in a square or a circle.  I used a scrap of green burlap.

DSC_0318

To help me secure the fabric around the top edge, I used a few dots of hot glue and just drew it up all around the pot.

Tie a simple ribbon around it into a bow and you have a simple, inexpensive centerpiece or a gift.

Ahhh… this just says spring to me!  The bright colors, the green in the stems, the texture of the burlap, the white – so perfect.

My living room smells fresh and clean, all the surfaces are clean, and the room has been decorated with fresh plants and touches of spring, thanks to Home Depot and P&G.

We recently bought a new house and I have a lot more room than I am used to. It is wonderful but some spaces seem a little bare! 🙂 I would love to spruce up my formal living room!

Not my favorite “spruce up” activity, but one that makes such a difference:
cleaning windows throughout the house. Now that the weather is getting nicer, I’ll be able to open the windows long enough to clean them!! HAPPY SPRING!!!
