Your guide to turning your house into a home... one DIY project and yard sale find at a time

Spring Fling Must-Haves

April 18, 2013

This is a sponsored post by  Central Garden & Pet.  See full disclosure statement below.

Spring.  I thought it would never come this year.  Now that it finally has, I am busy at work outside!

I LOVE working outside in the yard.  And judging from my facebook post the other day, a lot of you LOVE working in the yard.

I have been cleaning out and planting flowers in pots on my deck and front porch, cleaning out and planting in flower beds, doing some sprucing up of outside and more.

cleaned out flower pots

But caring for the outside extends beyond flowers, and gardens, and porches.  You have to worry about the biggest thing – the lawn!    I get a little lost when it comes to that except for the mowing part.

I don’t know if it is because we had so much cold weather in March or a late spring or what but our yard seemed to be taking forever to “get green” this year.  Anyone else feeling the same way?

So I was super excited when I was contacted by Central Garden & Pet and sent a basket of goodies to try out in my yard and around my home.

First up is this Ironite Plus Yard and Garden spray.

Ironite Plus Yard and Garden spray

How could I go wrong with Ironite® Brand mineral supplements which have helped plants develop strong roots and lush, green growth for over 55 years?

It took no time at all to apply this to my yard.  In fact it was so easy, it barely needs an explanation, but here goes.

You will want your soil to be moist so either do it in early morning after the dew or water your yard before applying.  Shake the container and then connect it to your garden hose.  Turn on the water, and then turn on the nozzle on the Ironite bottle.

Then just walk across your yard spraying from side to side making sure to get even and good coverage.  This one little bottle covers up to 5,000 square feet!

Ironite Plus Yard and Garden spray

Ironite® Plus Liquid Lawn & Garden Spray 6-2-1 is dual-acting formula that feeds through the foliage and the roots.  It contains 1% iron and does not cause plant “burn.”  It is formulated to cause your lawn or flowers/shrubs to green up quickly.  Who doesn’t want that?

I am already seeing a difference in our grass – yay!  You can apply this every 2-4 weeks if needed.  I also sprayed it on my flower beds – it is safe and made to be used on lawns, shrubs, trees, and flowers.

I have created a Pinterest board to document all things home and garden this spring and summer.  You can find that board and follow or repin from it here and even create your own Home and Garden board on Pinterest.  (Share the link to your board or Pinterest profile in the comments and I will come follow you!)

Now for the best part!  Central Garden & Pet wants ONE of you to get a head start on working on your yard this spring.  Whether you need some supplements for your lawn, weed killer, insect killer, or more you can probably find a product to help you in the Central Garden & Pet family.  They will be giving one of you a $25 American Express gift card so you can purchase whatever you want to help you with your yard this spring.

Here’s how to enter:

This giveaway will be run through the Rafflecopter widget below.  If you are reading this post through email or reader you will need to click here to be taken to the actual blog post to enter.

You MUST answer the question given in the widget and leave your answer in  blog post comment for any entry to count – that is a MANDATORY ENTRY.  Giveaway closes Thursday, April 24th at midnight and winner will be notified.

I could definitely use extra help this year. My neighbors septic tank runs into ours..??!! Yes, it does, anyway last summer theirs got blocked. It flooded our modular home and our whole back yard was destroyed when the men came and dug into our tank to fix their problem. We have so much repair to do to our lawn and gardens :/. I would be able to put this to great use. Thank you 🙂

We just need actual grass!! Our house/neighborhood was built on what use to be a cow pasture and you would think with it once beig a pasture we would have great soil etc but its awful!!! It’s all rocks and weeds. It is so embarrassing.. Our neighbors have spent a small fortune to get theirs looking good but at the moment we can’t spend that kind of money on grass!

Hmmmm… My kids will hate me for saying this, but we need to get rid of the dandelions ASAP! Beyond that, I’d like to actually get an outdoor seating area set up, maybe even with some container flowers around it! (That way we can take them with us if/when we buy a “forever” house…) I’d love to win, because I would usually rather spend my hubby’s hard-earned money on things that will last, more than just flowers… but I would really love some!

Oh, my yard is such a disaster it can’t even be called a yard… I guess the first thing I need to do is get a goat to attack all the blackberries. I can’t bear to use nasty chemicals, and I am not physically up to pulling them out or a weedwacker, so a goat is the perfect answer. I used to have one, but he got old.

I really need to use the space, which is just fir cones and bare, under our giant Doug Fir trees! We have 4 of them! I love how our yard smells like a campground in the Summer, but need something out there! Happy Spring everyone! 🙂
