Making game day food easy with Rubbermaid + my favorite black bean and corn salsa recipe

January 21, 2013

I don’t know about you but I am excited for the Super Bowl coming up in a few weeks.  Now, don’t get me wrong, we aren’t huge football fans.  BUT yummy party food, fun, friends and the commercials are definitely not to be missed!  We usually have a big Super Bowl party with lots of friends after church at my brother’s house and I can’t wait!

Rubbermaid + Superbowl = a great game

And to make the food part of that easy this year, I am relying on Rubbermaid and their great food storage and serving pieces to get the food to the party.

I headed to Target since they have a coupon on their site that you can print off to save $1.00 in Rubbmaid Easy Find Lids or on Rubbermaid TakeAlongs containers.  Also you can stack that Target coupon with the manufacturer coupons that came out in the paper a few weeks ago to save even more.

If you are in desperate need of food storage containers this multi-piece set is a GREAT starter kit since it contains quite a few containers of all different sizes.

And if you are always bringing meals to people or parties these Rubbermaid TakeAlongs are a great option to pick up.  They are leak-proof, come in all sizes, and are very reasonably priced so even if you never get them back or leave them behind it isn’t a big deal.

I LOVE my Rubbermaid containers!  I have gradually been building this collection the last year or so after I needed to replace my food storage containers.  I have a lot more containers than this but they were being used at the time.

Rubbermaid Easy-find lids

My favorite part of these particular Rubbermaid products is the “easy-find lids.”   The lids snap together and can also snap to the bottom of the container so you don’t ever lose a lid.

The containers on the top shelf are divided containers that I use for my husband’s lunch all the time.  Perfect to pop leftovers in and keep them separated and ready for him to take to work.  All their containers are leak-proof and I have never had a problem with  any of them leaking too.

Rubbermaid + Superbowl = a great game

One of the things I didn’t have in my Rubbermaid collection was a super-large container so I picked on of those up at Target (and made sure to use this coupon to save money on it too.)  I also picked up one of their Premier containers.  It is a clear, almost glass like container with a clear window lid.   It is BPA free and supposed to be stain resistant too.

Then I got to thinking about what kind of food I would bring to the Superbowl party.

I saw this idea on the Rubbermaid site to use 2 containers (a smaller container inside a larger container) to make it like a chip ‘n dip container!  Brilliant I tell you!

Rubbermaid + Superbowl = a great game

Fill it up with veggies of your choice and smaller container of dip in the middle.  Then just pop on the lid of the large container and you are all ready!

When you get to the party, snap the lid on the bottom of the container and you are set!  No lost lids!

I used my other large container for chips.  Two smaller containers will get added at the party filled with salsa – one container of regular hot salsa and another container of homemade black bean and corn salsa.

I LOVE homemade salsa especially if it has black beans in it!  This salsa is super simple too.

Here’s my stack of containers ready to take to the party!  So easy to tote and I love knowing that they can’t leak all over my car too.  Love anything that makes my life more simple right now  – don’t we all?
