How to add simple patriotic touches to your home for the summer in classic farmhouse style.
So excited to share my patriotic mantel and mini home tour with you today! I wasn’t sure I was going to decorate for the 4th this year except for maybe some little flags stuck in pots outside and maybe a few inside. But my decor had been the same since early spring and I was itching for a change, and also burdened for this country I love and call HOME. With normal 4th of July activities canceled this year I just felt the pull to celebrate big in my home!
Let’s go back and start at the front door where we welcome you inside…
Decorating outside can be as easy as adding some stick flags in your flower pots, hanging a flag or some bunting on your porch, and tucking a few flags in your wreath on your front door. I actually switched out the wreath this year for a front door basket and I love it! Full DIY with sources for items I used can be found in this post,
Coffee is served hot in the morning at our house and whipped or iced the rest of the day… Having this little coffee bar is so fun and I love adding seasonal touches to it with my decor and Rae Dunn mugs.
Now for the living room…
I just absolutely LOVE how my mantel came out this year… sometimes I have a an idea like I wanted to hang a big flag over it this year… but the small touches I have no idea what I am going to do. I saw that big HOME sign in my decor stash at last minute when I was looking for something else to add and knew it would be perfect to add!
I honestly don’t have a lot of patriotic decor or even navy/red decor – I have one bin that is a combination of patriotic and beach themed decor. But I find a big huge flag, some stick flags, and a maybe a few wood stars are really all you need.
I did find that blue and white quilt at my favorite local thrift store for $1.00 last week and snatched it up fast – it is gorgeous and so classic to use for summer farmhouse decor.
A few navy and white pillows (the striped one on the bench on the hearth is pillow cover from Hobby Lobby currently in stock) and another thrifted navy throw adds some navy touches while still keeping it pretty simple.
Let’s talk real quick about the decor on the mantel…
I love to incorporate some vintage finds in my home decor and if you’ve been around here you’ve probably seen me use this vintage minnow bucket at Christmas time with a Christmas tree inside. When I knew I wanted to add a plant on my mantel, I knew it would make the perfect planter for that too.
We’ve actually been doing a little bit of fishing this summer at a local lake so we may have to actually use it as a real minnow bucket But I sure do love the look of this trailing pothos plant inside too. The clock is from the recent 75% clearance at Hobby Lobby.
On this side, I just added that black HOME sign (Spring shop last year at Hobby Lobby but I think they still have similar), another smaller silver pothos, and some thrifted black candlesticks.
And adding touches of blue in my home wouldn’t be complete without bringing some of my blooming hydrangeas inside to enjoy in a vintage blue Ball jar. You can see an entire tour of my yard and house exterior in this post – I LOVE my hydrangeas!
I am so thankful to call this country HOME… it’s not perfect and I hope it can be even better in years to come but there is truly no place I’d rather live! With or without huge firework displays and huge gatherings this year, may we take the time to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy and determine to protect them for the generations to come. Praying for God to truly heal our land and bless it in the days to come.
Happy 4th of July!
