DIY Farmhouse LOVE baby footprint sign

January 16, 2017

I am a DecoArt Core blogger for 2016-2017.  This post and paint is sponsored by DecoArt, but the cute baby and styling is all mine! 🙂

My daughter Katelyn is here today guest posting on a super cute craft she did recently for her room! Winking smile  This Farmhouse Love sign would be perfect to use to decorate for Valentine’s Day which is right around the corner too!

I’ve been wanting to make some DIY signs for her room and also wanting to preserve some of those baby memories (like those cute little feet that are growing too fast) so this was the perfect project for mommy and daughter to do together.

Materials needed:

  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic pant in Neutral Gray
  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic paint in Poodleskirt Pink
  • DecoArt Color Stain in Ash Grey
  • paintbrushes
  • 12×12 Canvas or board
  • 1×2 boards for frame (optional)
  • printed letters
  • some cute baby feet! Smile

First you will want to do the footprints so you have the spacing for the other letters.   I just painted the bottom of her feet with the pink paint and then stamped them on the canvas.  No pictures of this process because a wiggly baby with paint on her feet required 3 hands already Winking smile.  But crisis averted and paint only ended up on the canvas and not on mommy.

I taped the letters on the back of the board and then held it up to the light so I could see to trace them on to the front.

Then you are ready to fill in the letters with paint.

I did 2 coats of paint and it was looking good.  You could totally stop here and just use it like this.  But I love the signs that are framed with wood so decided to do a simple DIY frame.

I cut four 1×2 boards to fit the canvas.

And then stained them with the Ash Grey Americana Color Stain.  I used a nailer to secure them to the side but some strong glue may work as well.

I just love this sign!  It looks so cute in her room and I will probably end up using in a gallery wall on the other wall.

I just love that is so personal and a baby keepsake with those tiny pink footprints.  This mommy will definitely be using this to decorate for Valentine’s Day when she is older as a reminder of these sweet baby days.

The love sign idea is very cute, but the photo of Katelyn “holding” the sign is amazing! Thanks for brightening my day!
