Your guide to turning your house into a home... one DIY project and yard sale find at a time

Christmas in the Kitchen

December 17, 2015

I am so excited to show you my Christmas decorated kitchen today!

Christmas in the Kitchen

I never really have done any Christmas decorating in the kitchen other than a seasonal towel and maybe some kind of display behind the sink.  But this year I was going to go all out and I couldn’t wait!

Because when you kitchen has gone from this…

kitchen before

to THIS, it deserves some Christmas decorating!  Smile  You can see the process and links to all the steps in our kitchen makeover in this post.

Christmas in the Kitchen

So let’s start the tour with the breakfast room… This is the view from the living room in to the breakfast area.

Christmas in the Kitchen

The table is adorned with a plaid Christmas tablecloth from the BHG collection at Walmart, green mason jars and fun red/white striped straws, some placemats from IKEA, and my Winterberry Christmas dishes.

Christmas in the Kitchen

The painted mason jar centerpiece is a DIY project – tutorial here.  And those cute little stocking and napkins I picked up thrifting.

Christmas in the Kitchen

I added some free tree cuttings in the chandelier and hung a thrift store mirror from the panty door.  Since I used my red JOY letters in my Christmas bedroom this year, I made a new set of red letters spelling NOEL this year (just paper mache letters from Hobby Lobby spray painted with Rustoleum Red spray paint)

Christmas in the Kitchen

I love the light that comes through the bay windows in this room during the day.

Christmas in the Kitchen

Then stepping into the kitchen, I had fun adding some Christmas touches!  I decided to do a card display on the cabinets this year – we have just started receiving cards in the mail and as I get photo cards I will probably replace most of these with photos cards – those are my favorite.  I just taped strips of red ribbon to the back of the doors with some clear packing tape and secure the cards with clothespins.  Easy, quick, and inexpensive.

Christmas in the Kitchen

My open cabinets already had some red and green dishes in them so I just added some sprigs of greenery.

Christmas in the Kitchen

I found this vintage remake of a candy dispenser at a yard sale this past year and moved it into the kitchen this year with some little bottle brush trees and a little deer I grabbed from my nephews toys.  The deer has since been removed since I was getting asked multiple times a day when he could come out and play again.  LOL!  Winking smile

Christmas in the Kitchen

I love the view I get from the kitchen sink into the living room at the Christmas tree and mantel.

Christmas in the Kitchen

These wreaths were a DIY project almost 5 years ago and I love using them every year.  I adore them hung over the cabinet doors (again I just taped the ribbon on the back of the cabinet doors).  Some greenery and Christmas mugs added to our coffee station and it was complete.

Christmas in the Kitchen

This display of items all found at Goodwill fills the area behind the sink.

Christmas in the Kitchen

I didn’t want too much clutter as the kitchen gets used so much during the holidays for baking and cookie decorating!  But I couldn’t resist adding a hot chocolate station that will stay here throughout the winter.

Christmas in the Kitchen

It makes grabbing a cup of hot cocoa easy and looks festive too! Smile

Here’s a closer look at the open cabinets.

Some simple Christmas ornaments and cookie cutters in a pretty tiered server grace the stove when it is not in use.

Christmas in the Kitchen

On this counter I just added a little tree, a treat jar from my Winterberry collection, and a set of salt and pepper shakers.

Christmas in the Kitchen

Aren’t those snowman cute?  I enjoyed pulling out some of my Winterberry collection to use and display this year.  My collection was built over several years getting pieces each Christmas as gifts from family when we first got married.

Christmas in the Kitchen

I saw this idea I think over at Thrifty Décor Chick and I couldn’t resist adding some cookie cutters tied up with bakery twine to my glass canisters!  And yes here in the south, tea bags go with the baking staples because sweet tea is a Southern staple! Smile

Christmas in the Kitchen

Oh how I love the simple and inexpensive updates we did in our kitchen (new countertops we installed ourselves, painted cabinets, new cabinet pulls, and a DIY beadboard backsplash) – I truly enjoy and love this room now!

Christmas in the Kitchen

And I am loving it all decked out for Christmas. Smile

    Christina,

Your house is so cozy and beautifully decorated, and all the little details are awesome. I haven’t done anything other than put a Merry Christmas flag out and a “JOY” decoration on the mantel. I just have not been in to it this year for some reason. I am about too late too, but Looking at your home has got me more motivated, so maybe this evening when I get home, I will start. Better late than never. Thanks so much for sharing all you beautiful ideas. You are an inspiration.

I pray you and your family have a very Merry Christmas! Be blessed.

My kitchen is decorated in red, yellow and green, so not a lot is needed. I normally have ceramic strawberry items in window sill over sink and have in past replaced those with ceramic gingerbread houses, and other ceramic Christmas characters. I also have a couple of snowman cookies jars and a metal peppermint wall hanging that spells out Merry Chrismas for the bay window.

Hello there! I love your ideas! I wanted to see if you could tell me how you made those 2 wreaths in the kitchen by the sink. You said it was a diy from 5 years ago. I just love them! Thank you in advance for your reply! 🙂

I just found your website. Love your kitchen and Christmas decor! You have a lot of great ideas! Where did you get the 2 tier server next to the kitchen sink? I can’t find it online anywhere.

    Clever, cheery and inviting.
Love that you thrift shopped a lot if the items. The all white kitchen is the perfect palette and serves to be the “snow” to set the wintry science in the south! Very impressive!
