When you are at home what is the background noise going on in your home? It may be your kids playing (or screaming ) or the sound of the dishwasher/washing machine working or maybe the TV. But what kind of background noise is the most inspiring/relaxing sound to you?
I am very much a “want background noise on” when I am at home. I don’t enjoy cold silence for hours. While sometimes I may turn on the TV and leave it on the Hallmark channel, HGTV, or the Food Network to “listen to” in the background while I am cleaning or working, I also love to listen to music. Music can be much more calming, relaxing, comforting, and even motivating.
With technology today there is so many ways to listen to music in your home. If you have cable or satellite TV there is probably music channels included. XFINITY has a soundscapes channel that I enjoy along with a classical station and a holiday channel that I enjoy during Christmas. I also love Pandora and have lots of stations of inspirational, Christian, classical, and holiday music set up in my account. And I can listen to Pandora through my TV, computer, or an app on my phone. And then there is just old fashioned CD’s . You could burn a cd or create a playlist of your favorite digital music and create a soundtrack just for your home that will create the atmosphere you desire in your home. I find that when I am wanting to do some quick cleaning, I put on something classical or upbeat and it gets me moving faster. But most of the time I have inspirational, encouraging Christian music playing to encourage my soul. Music is a HUGE source of comfort and encouragement to me, so I find myself turning to it frequently.
So think about what the background noise is in your home? Maybe you could turn music on during dinner one day this week and see if it creates a more calming/relaxing atmosphere. What is your favorite music to play in your home and do you have different genre’s that you turn to depending on the activity?
Challenge: Make music a priority in your home. Make a playlist of some of your favorite songs and play it often. See if it changes the mood and atmosphere in your home.
