You may have been missing my Friday Frugal Finds posts and let me tell you I have been missing shopping yard sales! I don’t think I have been to a yard sale in 2 months due to weather, schedules, being out of town… I had really been looking forward to going to HUGE community wide yard sale this weekend, but it is a rainy day today here in GA and forecasts to be a rainy day tomorrow completely raining out that sale.
So what’s a thrift-loving girl to do when she can’t go yard sale shopping? She shops estate sales ONLINE! Yes, you heard that right, you can shop estate sales online on a site called Everything But The House.
Everything But The House (EBTH) has actually been around since 2008 but I didn’t hear about it until earlier this year when they launched their Atlanta market. Here’s how it works: when someone has an estate or a collection of items to to sell, they contact EBTH. EBTH comes out and sorts through items, takes professional and detailed pictures of each piece, and then lists them online to be bid on for a period of 7 days. Every bid starts at $1 and there is no maximum or minimum bid. Once the sale ends, the highest bidder wins that item and can choose to have it shipped to them for additional cost or if the sale is local to them they can pick it up at a scheduled date or time. The items they sell range from smaller things like dishes/décor/jewelry to furniture to even cars!
Everything But The House is currently in 15 cities including Cincinnati, OH; Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; Chicago, IK; Columbus, OH; Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX; Denver, CO; Indianapolis, IN; Lexington, KY; Los Angeles, CA; Louisville, KY; Nashville, TN; Southwest, FL; and Washington, DC. And 2 new cities are coming soon – Charlotte, NC and Charleston, SC.
So I took a peek at the 3 sales going on right now in the Atlanta area since they would be close enough for me to pick up and here’s some of my favorites items:
A wood child’s chair and a white pine entertainment center – current bid $1 – yes $1.00!
This set of cute distressed shelves – would be super cute in a kids room! Current bid $7
I am so tempted to bid on this white wood shelving unit! I need to measure a space and see if it would fit but for $14 it would be a steal of a deal! I can click on “follow” if I wish not to bid right now and it will save the item in my EBTH account so I can check on it later.
Check this out – a whole entire room of matching furniture from a bunk bed frame, nightstand, dresser, and shelving hutch. Current bid for all of it totals $75.
This vintage sewing machine table is gorgeous too! Bidding at $1 right now.
I love looking at the furniture but there is tons of décor, tools, dishes, and so much more on there too. Like this beautiful mirror – currently bidding at $4. You can see where you can get a quote immediately on how much it would be to ship the item to your zip code before you even bid on the item.
Here’s a beautiful collection of blue and white decorative items and only $1 as the current bid right now.
There are new and vintage dishes all throughout their sales too. Need dishes for entertaining or a wedding? This set of 33 vintage looking glass dishes is cheaper than buying plastic ones right now at a bid of $6.
There are many vintage items in their sales as well – love this fan currently bidding at $23.
How about a Persian Rug? Current bid $12
These 4 dining arm chairs are currently bidding at $24
I peeked around at some of the other sales – this one is in Indianapolis. The current bid on these blue and vintage Ball Jars is $14 and shipping would be about $12 so not bad at all for 15 jars delivered to my door!
Even if you live local to a sale it may be just easier and cheaper to have it shipped especially if you were only buying 1 item. Such as this huge basket of juvenile books. There is no bid currently on this item so I would bid $1.00 and shipping is $8.
You can search by sale so you can browse sales near you, or you can search popular terms like – Ball jars, furniture, vintage, dishes, etc. to see all items, or even search by category across all current sales.
New sales come on to the site daily so I try to check in on it several times a week.
So here’s the best part – how you would like $20 to go shopping? Just create an account (it’s free and you don’t have to add payment information until you bid on something) and a $20 coupon code will be emailed to you.
Since this is a well known business and I would be picking up at a scheduled date and time with their employees present, I would feel much safer than picking up an item I negotiated on Craigslist at someone’s home. I love a good deal but I also value my safety too.
I think I have some bidding to do! I will be sure to share when I pick up a fun find from EBTH and I would love to see your items if you end up finding something you buy too!
Susie says
If you are looking for a steal of a bargain you will most likely be disappointed. Bids on nice items go WAY up at the end of auctions. Three days out tells you nothing. I have purchased some things. They were not steals, just stuff I wanted. It is for real. I had stuff shipped from Boston and picked some items up in Cincinnati.
