So yesterday I showed you a bunch of jewelry I got at a yard sale for 75¢ and some more flower pins I had made. So I wanted to show you some ways that I incorporate some of these things into my wardrobe. You know I am all about showing you how to take a yard sale or thrift store find and transform it to fit in your home, so let’s do that in our closet too!
I am a very visual person. People may think “Oh she is just a good decorator or has a good eye for things” – actually I am just good at COPYING ideas I have seen! I have read blogs, studied magazines, browsed Pinterest and have images of things that I like embedded in my brain. I might not remember the exact picture but I remember the concept that I liked such as – I loved the white accents or loved the vintage look or loved the style of the frame and so many other things. So when I am shopping yard sales, thrift stores, or stores I am consciously looking for things that I loved in those inspiration pictures.
Same with my clothes and accessories.
When I started using Pinterest, I remember seeing pictures of clothes that people pinned. Most were from Polyvore, which is neat site itself that allows you to sort of create a “mood board” of different pieces of an outfit and accessories. And I remember thinking why would I pin that? I would never be able to find that particular dress or skirt or scarf??
BUT Pinterest is for what? INSPIRATION! It is not that I am trying to find THAT particular skirt or dress, but that the colors, the style, the combination of the accessories inspire an idea or a vision for things to watch for while I am shopping.
So here is my favorite recent Pinterest inspired outfit! (the skirt is actually ankle length with a ruffle that comes up below the knee in the front – I had it sort of folded up to fit in the picture.)

I found the skirt at the Dressbarn outlet on a recent shopping trip with my mother-in-law. And bonus I had a gift card from Christmas to use too. In fact as soon as I saw it I think I even said out loud, “I pinned that skirt on Pinterest!” It is a knit skirt and THE MOST COMFORTABLE skirt I have ever worn.
There are so many ways I can wear it but here is one way…
- flower pin – made by me
- bracelet – Cato $2.99
- ring – made by me
- necklace – $0.75 yard sale finds
- shirt – $6-ish clearance last year at Belk
- white sweater shrug – Cato $19.99
Here’s another way I could wear it.
- light yellow shirt – clearance from Loft – $2.67
- flower – made by me
- bracelet – Cato $2.99
- necklaces – $0.75 yard sale finds
- rings – made by me
- black sweater – already had – Cato??
And one last way…
Just switched out the shirt and flower and added a black $0.75 yard sale necklace.
Here’s another outfit I had pinned on Pinterest…

And the outfit I pulled together from my closet!
- flower pin – made by me
- bracelet – Cato $2.99
- rings – made by me
- necklace – $0.75 yard sale find
- shirt – $6-ish Belk clearance find
- skirt – Kohl’s last year with coupon ??
- sweater shrug – Cato $19.99
And this outfit is so interchangeable too! I could wear the green or red shirt with it too, a black sweater, so much more!
Maxi dresses (floor length dresses usually in a knit type fabric) are really popular this year! I am seeing them everywhere and they are so COMFY! Plus I wore one 2 weeks ago to church and hubby loved it. Super comfy + hubby likes it = SUPER WIN!
I was in Wal-mart the other day buying more Tylenol and Gatorade for my sick hubby and saw this adorable maxi dress. Only $16 too. And I just happened to have a Wal-mart gift card I had won as a door prize burning a hole in my pocket. Tylenol for hubby, dress for me that he will like = score!
- same Cato sweater – definitely getting my $ worth
- maxi dress – Wal-mart $16
- ring – made by me
- earrings and necklace – Cato clearance – $1.99 for the set (you gotta check Cato clearance!! almost as good as my $0.75 yard sale jewelry!)
Inspired by this pin…
So there you go! How Pinterest and yard sales help me not only decorate my house but inspire my wardrobe. Thank you Pinterest for helping me to avoid being nominated for “What not to wear” inspire me yet again.

Love all your super cute outfits! And, the maxi dresses are the best! My sister got me like 4 of them last year and I have found a few more at Goodwills! They are the best!

I haven’t posted my tutorial yet 🙂 But I can tell you that I got the flowers and the rings from etsy.com and then just glued together. If you need direct links – email me:)
