We’ve been working on our fixer upper house for quite a while now. You have no idea how much of an improvement just this view of this side of the house is after removing over 40+ bushes from the front and this side of the house, and getting the house painted. But it was still looking quite plain and boring and I love to add character and bit of craftsman/farmhouse style to our home.
So in less than 5 minutes and about $15 out of pocket this is how my garage door looks now!
Pretty good after for under $20 bucks and like 2 minutes of time! I like those kind of projects 🙂

So let me share my secret – there wer NO holes/drills/or screws were involved because all of those pieces are magnetic! I did some research, read reviews, and ordered this set of magnetic garage door accents from Amazon.
They are a heavy duty plastic type material with super heavy duty magnets. So yes your garage door needs to be metal for these to work but most garage doors are. All I had to do was take them out of the package, decided on placement, and then just let the magnets snap them into place.
I have had them installed for a while now, actually about 6 months. I wanted to make sure they were going to hold up, not move or fall off, fade, etc before I shared them with you. They have never fallen off and never even moved (unless someone messes with them) and they still look brand new after being in the sun for 6 months. So they get a 5 out of 5 stars review for me! I figure if a few years down the road they do fade, a quick coat of spray paint will have them back to new but so far they look great.
So if you want a simple and inexpensive project to add some character to your plain garage door, here’s the kit I ordered and have been very pleased with! Gotta love simple projects that add big impact!

I have been thinking of doing this for years rather than get a new door right now and just a few days ago I was pulling out of the drive way and thought I really need to look for those magnetic ones I have heard of and get that done! Thank you for your recommendation I will click right through your link and buy this set!! It looks great as does everything you are doing! I have added the faux hinges and hold backs to all my new shutters since I redid the outside of the house and I love them, so this is a great addition!

But what if you have an automatic garage door. What happens to the accents when the garage opens and closes?
Andy says
Looks good. Hey, if you wanted to go a step further and add even more realism, you could always pick up some 1/4″ black pinstripe tape from the dollar store and add a vertical “gap” running from top to bottom to make it really look like two separate doors.
