I showed you my patriotic mantel yesterday, but I wanted to share with you how easy it was to make the simple bunting or pendants hanging over my window.
I think bunting is really gaining in popularity – I am starting to see fabric versions popping up at all kinds of parties and in pictures on Pinterest.
So I thought it was my turn to make some! I picked up 1/4 of a yard of 3 different complimentary patriotic prints and a pack of single fold bias tape. We just had a new Joann’s fabric re-open near us and that store is amazing! So much more stuff than the old one and some really nice fabrics.
I cut out 2 samples from paper to be my guide.
Since my fabric was still doubled over, I was able to cut 2 bunting flags with each cut. So I ended up with 4 of each. But you will want to cut as many as you need, and also in whatever size you need. These are a bit small but I needed that to use on my window. If I was making them for a party or to hang from the bottom of my mantel, I would make them larger.
Now here is where the easy, no-sew part comes in. I originally had thought I would sew the bunting flags and make them 2-sided, then turn them inside out and sew them onto the bias tape. But the the hot glue won out! Plus I wanted to show you that YOU can do this even if you don’t have a sewing machine and don’t have a clue about sewing.
I was wanting to pick up a different kind of bias tape – one that would have had 1 fold at the top and the pendant would have just fit inside of it. I don’t even know for sure that exists, maybe I am just imagining it? So it was probably good I was gluing these instead of sewing them. I just kept gluing them on until I had a piece long enough to fit on my window like I wanted.
And it is actually just taped up there! I guess I could have at least gotten the thumb talks about, but this is working just fine.
I love it! And can definitely see me making some more bunting in the future! I didn’t even use 1/4 of the material I got , so could honestly get a huge strip of bunting from very little material.
Have you ever made any type of banner or pendant or bunting? Did you do the lazy easy way?
